soona, where creativity goes to die

Pros

close to the city, good studio people

Cons

Long days, terrible management, no creative guidance or leadership on sight, unrealistic sales goals, vanilla photo setups, lack of support... it doesn't take long to realize soona does not care about creatives, once the kool-aid runs out you realize how much they are taking advantage of you, your disponability, and creativity. A quick glance at the reviews and you will notice HR does not take the time or effort to reply to creatives posting reviews, I think it is because they want you to know they do not care. In other words, get in line or get out.

We regret that your experience wasn’t one that ultimately felt more positive. As a fast-growing start-up, we do have times where there are bumps in the road and the speed at which we are able to respond is not as fast as we want it to be. At the same time, we are listening to the feedback from all our crews and continuously working to improve and make positive change. The feedback we have received from our creative teams this year has led to changes – both implemented and still in process. Here are some examples. We’ve just added new creative and production leadership roles to build capacity for individual development and coaching and to continue to improve our studio layouts and setups. We’ve added another tier to our creative ladder to allow for more career growth and leadership opportunities. We’ve changed our studio standard operating procedures to improve our feedback loops so that we can respond better and faster to issues or problems. We’ve added more resources to key areas such as pre-production and production management to increase production support. We now include 6+ days of hands-on training for new full-time creative hires. soona is different from nearly any other production business in that our creatives receive salaries with full benefits including health insurance, employer sponsored 401K, up to $600 in education reimbursements and up to $6,000 in bonuses annually. It is our intention to continually listen, provide candor and context for our decisions and what we can and can not change, and to only get better at what we do for all our crews and customers.

Pros

I love working at soona. It's exciting and inspiring to work at a growing company in a creative industry. There are so many learning opportunities and the team is really special.

Cons

Not a con in my opinion, but it's probably not the best place to work if you prefer to be told what to do, or a very slow pace.
