WARNING: Terrible General Manager / Owner

Pros

- Meet other college students. - Forces you to review concepts that you will teach your students. - The center is in a good location. - The parents and the kids are usually nice.

Cons

- HIGH turnover rate. - Little to no training or guidance provided. - Hours are NOT guaranteed. - Expected to do work outside of working hours. - Customers' time are prioritized at the cost of your hours or your pay. - You have to create your own lesson plans and material (unpaid). - Discouraged from making friends with the other coaches. - You are paid at the same rate regardless of how many students are in a session / class / camp. - May be asked to teach at the center and elementary schools in other areas. Those that did this were not compensated for the drive. - May be given students working on material you are not familiar with. Specific about the GM/Owner: - Will watch you from the cameras. - Has persistently tried to get staff to come in despite them recently testing positive for COVID and providing their results. - Has expressed doubt that some staff were being truthful when claiming that they were feeling unwell (for COVID or other illnesses). - Will become distracted, unresponsive, and absent for weeks at a time. - Talks poorly about the coaches to other coaches/staff and in front of students. - May ask you to come over to her house and tutor her children in different subjects. - Said we should be happy that we are not working at "dirty" part-time jobs like fast food during MULTIPLE staff meetings. - Has called staff "toxic" and "unprofessional" when she was told that our pay was no longer competitive in the area (a majority of coaches were still being paid at $15). - Has no background in tech beyond recruiting. (e.g. Was upset because she thought coaches who knew how to teach python should already know how to use pygame). - Beware that she is also opening a TCS in Redondo Beach. Warning to "interns": You do almost the same exact work as the other coaches but are unpaid.

Cons

THE GM Had to work without compensation Exposed to COVID but almost forced to come to work regardless of the safety of the students and co-workers Told coworker was unprofessional when they asked if they could get a bonus for every camp they ran Never paid for uncompensated work time Students cancel whenever they want and you have to waste time and gas money When students cancel you don't get compensated even if you show The list goes on people
