Burnette currently serves as a nurse practice specialist at Atrium Health and supports the region in its work around Nursing Excellence, to create positive practice environments. She is a dynamic, dedicated leader with more than 18 years of nursing leadership experience and 20 years of OB/GYN experience in the nursing profession. Burnette isn’t just impacting our patients and communities; she is making waves that will reverberate for generations to come. She is an advocate for underserved patients in our division and has volunteered her time to provide support to those in need, in her work as well as in her personal life. On a national level, she worked with the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses to develop a respectful care program for facilities to implement within their maternity units. Burnette’s passion has not gone unnoticed. She was honored as one of North Carolina’s "Great 100 Nurses” in 2022, was the 2022 recipient of the Daisy Nurse Leader Award and received an Atrium Health Touchstone award this year for her work on managing hypertension.
Dr. Jennifer Sullivan is senior vice president for strategic operations for Atrium Health. As her title implies, Sullivan works closely with leaders from its clinical service lines – including children’s, heart and vascular, musculoskeletal, neuroscience and oncology, among others – to develop strategies and outcomes that demonstrate Atrium Health’s national leadership in health. Sullivan has earned many honors over the course of her career, including being named a “Woman of Influence'' by the Indianapolis Business Journal in 2017. She also served as the secretary of the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, a cabinet-level position for Indiana Governor Eric J. Holcomb. Although Sullivan’s current role at Atrium Health includes all things strategy, she also remains clinically active. She helps care for our smallest patients in the emergency department at Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital. Most recently, Sullivan has helped lead teams who equip home health nurses with #NaloxoneKits, a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.
Dr. Amina Ahmed has been with Atrium Health for more than 25 years, focusing her time on infectious diseases and infection prevention. In her tenure, she has helped develop and implement policies to make patients, teammates, and the community safer by preventing infections. Her work became especially critical during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ahmed says she is inspired by many female doctors, but especially by her mother who taught her to “learn from the past and move on to make things better,” a mantra she implements often as a leader. Take a moment this #WomensHistoryMonth to recognize Dr. Ahmed.
