This month brings celebration and remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his contributions to society. Last week our Black Leadership Associate Connection Business Resource Group (BLAC BRG) hosted a discussion with U.S. associates about Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. At Bread Financial, we embrace and promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) to create a sense of belonging, drive value for our stakeholders and accelerate responsible sustained growth. We're pleased to share our collective progress toward infusing DE&I into our processes, policies and procedures through the four pillars of our DE&I strategy (Workforce, Workplace, Marketplace and Community) this year. Take a look at some of our 2023 highlights at the link below.
Bread Financial™ was recently named to USA Today’s America’s Climate Leaders 2023 list based on our successful adoption of environmentally responsible business practices and our prioritization of investments and initiatives related to climate change! The inaugural list showcases US companies that had the most dramatic reductions of greenhouse gas emissions from 2019 to 2021. Of the 400 industry leaders included on the list, Bread Financial ranked in the top 15%, cutting our emissions by 23.9%. Additionally, from 2021 to 2022, we cut our emissions by an additional 22% and secured more than a quarter of our energy from renewable sources. “As we continue to advance our environmental policies, strategies, and reporting, our inclusion on USA Today’s list is reflective of the great strides we’ve already made to reduce our carbon footprint and mitigate the risks of climate change,” said Dana Beckman, Head of Sustainability, Bread Financial. “Our deliberate integration of environmentally sound business practices across the company ensures we’re able to fulfill our commitments to and continually advance our Environment, Sustainability, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.”
ALL IN. ALL INCLUDED. This past weekend, on June 17, the PRIDE Business Resource Group (BRG) and many of our associates showed their support for both the LGBTQ+ community and their colleagues by marching with the Bread Financial float in the Stonewall Columbus Pride Parade through downtown Columbus among 700K+ visitors. In addition to sponsoring the parade, Bread Financial is also a proud sponsor of Pride on High, which is described as the ultimate parade-watching experience. This event provides shade, restrooms, food/beverage, live commentary, and celebrity judges. The event hosted 750 guests and raised nearly $70K with proceeds donated to Stonewall Columbus, Kaleidoscope Youth Center, Equitas Health Mozaic Project, and the CCAD's LGBTQ+ Scholarship Fund. During the month of May, our Bread Financial Easton headquarters in Columbus, Ohio is shining a spotlight on Mental Health Awareness Month! Both of our campus buildings will be illuminated in green lighting from dusk to dawn in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. Green is the unofficial color of mental health awareness because it represents balance and harmony, which can help us to deal with mental anxiety and stress. For Mental Health Awareness Month, we're holding webinars to help our associates preserve their well-being by identifying symptoms of stress and anxiety (which aren’t always obvious) and providing tips for dealing with mental stress and anxiety and using emotional intelligence. To help associates manage their work-life balance, we have another webinar to educate associates on the family support benefits available to help them manage responsibilities, including Back-Up Care, Elder Care, Pet Care, and other support enhancements.
Bread Financial and the National Basketball Association’s Cleveland Cavaliers have partnered with The Nature Conservancy to plant 58,296 trees across the world as part of a multi-year agreement. Bread Financial donated $2 on behalf of every fan who attended the Cavs’ three “City Editions” nights this season. These donations amounted to $116,592 for the Plant a Billion Trees program, which will help plant mini forests in places like the Amazon region in South America, the panda bear forests of China, the Appalachian region in the U.S. and more.
Katona Pitts, Position Management Analyst, Talent Acquisition Member of the “Women Connect” Business Resource Group Why Women Connect? My interest started with my love and passion to mentor. I have participated in the creation and facilitation of an amazing mentoring sponsorship program. Women have been able to connect to form mentoring relationships, enabling career development and mutual encouragement. Tips on work-life balance? To achieve a balance between work and real-life existence, I turn off my internal "on duty" sign when I’m not working. I believe we have to give LIFE that same 110% of our energy that we give our work. I consider myself a "go-getter" in the workplace, so I remind myself to have that same focus when I'm spending time with friends and family. What inspires you? When I am feeling drained, uninspired, or unmotivated, I try picturing myself in the shoes those less fortunate. I have been given the ability to move, function, dream, and exist without limitations and when I pause for a second to think about that, I get instantly inspired to push forward.
Bread Financial has spent two years and nearly $15 million redesigning its Easton-area offices to accommodate the way employees now work. There are common themes of flexibility and equity throughout the space, which was redesigned by Unispace. Most employees don't have assigned desks, but can reserve them. "That's part of our equity push, you can sit wherever, regardless of your title," said Brandy Sullivan, SVP of People and Culture. Employees are encouraged to move to different spaces depending on the work. There is music on in some areas and off in others. There also is different lighting to cater to employee choice. The conference rooms have increased in number and size to encourage collaboration. Our cafe area now looks more like a Starbucks, with semi-circle booths, tables and other gathering areas. There is also a game room with arcade games and a pool table. Read the full article here: https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/10/31/bread-financial-office-tour.html
