This past weekend, we partnered with the Miami Dolphins for our Delivering Hope Event. We were able to surprise nearly 50 kids in the South Florida area with new beds! Having a bed to sleep in is so important and we are very proud that we are able to give back to the community through our 5% Giving Pledge and the help of our partners. Thank you to everyone who made this event happen! We already can't wait for next year. Additional thanks to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Broward, BBBS Miami - Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami, Breakthrough Miami, Special Olympics Florida, and Generational Cure.
We have BIG news: we're taking our business to Tampa! Construction recently began on our first showroom, warehouse, and corporate office location in the area! It’s going to be 1.2 million square feet and will bring over 500 jobs to Tampa, Plant City, and the surrounding areas. We are excited to be partnering with ARCO National Construction Company, United Steel Storage, Inc, and many others to make this expansion possible.
Celebrating International Women’s Day and its 2021 theme #ChooseToChallenge is important to us at CITY. In honor of this day, we are conducting a virtual workshop for our associates on ways to overcome gender bias in the workplace. We also are encouraging our CITY family to join the global #ChooseToChallenge campaign in showing their support and solidarity by posting what they choose to challenge on their social media accounts. From challenge, comes change, and we at CITY are committed to help create a more inclusive world. #IWD2021 #ChooseToChallenge
Our final featured associate for Black History Month is Denkue Wan who works in our Sales Department. We asked Denkue what he thinks of when he thinks about black culture and what his favorite aspect of black culture is. He gave an inspiring response: “I can’t think of black culture without thinking of the most creative people on the planet. They have been inventors, artists, scientists, architects, writers, athletes and musicians. From the invention of peanut butter, the traffic light, jazz, soul and R&B, to many other notable things that have been created by our people.” Thank you for sharing, Denkue! 2/26/2021
Our featured associate today is Kinne Alcime who works in our Sales Department. We asked Kinne how black culture affects his everyday life and he shared his answer with us: “Black culture affects my everyday life in many ways. It keeps me on my A-game, I know nothing is going to come easy to me, I have to work hard and take advantage of the bricks that our great ancestors have laid for me.” Thank you, Kinne! 2/24/2021
Our featured associate today is Kerstin Thompson who works in our CITY Marketing Department. We asked Kerstin what black culture meant to her and what her favorite aspect of her culture is. She shared her answer with us: “I think of beauty. We are such a melting pot of amazing people and things. One thing I am certain of is that black culture is beautiful — from attire, how we move (rhythmically), how individually unique we look and present, to how we express ourselves through the arts all across the globe — just gorgeous! What can I say… without a doubt, my favorite aspect of black culture is our music and dance. It’s just phenomenal!” Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Kerstin! 2/15/2021
Our first associate feature of the month is Cornelius Jackson who works in our CITY Technology Department. We asked him what Black History Month meant to him personally: “It means a time of reflection and celebration of my ancestors’ accomplishments and contributions to the world. It is easy to think we have moved forward each day on our own merit, but the road was paved with sacrifices of many people before us.” Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us, Cornelius! 2/10/2021
