For International Women’s Day and beyond, the world is asked to #EmbraceEquity. “Equity isn’t just a nice-to-have, it’s a must-have,” says internationalwomensday.com. “A focus on gender equity needs to be part of every society’s DNA. And it’s critical to understand the difference between equity and equality.” The difference between equality and equity is explained this way on internationalwomensday.com: “Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances, and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome. Equity can be defined as giving everyone what they need to be successful.” The campaign theme of International Women’s Day 2023 intends to promote thinking and talking about why “equal opportunities are no longer enough.”

Women have long been instrumental in passing on our heritage in word and in print to communicate the lessons of those who came before us. Women’s stories, and the larger human story, expand our understanding and strengthen our connections with each other.”
