Our patient David was added to the bone marrow transplant list after he was diagnosed with aplastic anemia his freshman year of high school. Though he's now in remission, he may still need a bone marrow transplant and continues to look for his perfect match. Every chance he gets, he raises awareness about the Be The Match registry and the importance of donors. You could be the match David is looking for. Text “childrens” to 61474 to learn more:
Join us in celebrating difference makers like Donna who works as a Medical Technologist in our Dallas Laboratory. Donna started with us immediately after school, and 42 years later, she's one of our longest-tenured employees! She's seen our campus evolve over the years and has become a mentor in the lab. Donna says she still learns something new every day and believes in the importance of her role and the children behind the test results. We're thankful for our team members like Donna! #BlackHistoryMonth
Zachary is no stranger to our Heart Center. A former patient turned team member, Zachary has first-hand experience what our heart warriors go through every day. Receiving 2 heart surgeries before his 18th birthday, Zachary knew he wanted to work in health care one day, specifically at the place that helped mend his own heart. After college, Zachary turned his dream into a reality and he’s now a Program Coordinator at The Heart Center. Zachary is an inspiration to us all! #WeHaveHeart
Help us welcome Dr. Madsen, our new chief of cardiology, co-director of our Heart Center and associate professor at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Madsen jumped right in to meet our difference makers in The Heart Center, passing out snacks and treats. He's proud The Heart Center is a place where everyone wants to come to work to improve the lives of our heart warriors.
Our patient Emerson is helping us kick off #HeartMonth! 2021 was a big year for Emerson as she conquered her 3rd open-heart surgery with strength and bravery. She also got to attend ballet class – something she's been wanting to do. Before Emerson was born, she was diagnosed with a #CongenitalHeartDefect. Our Heart Center worked with Emerson's parents every step of the way to ensure Emerson received the highest quality care to live a happy, healthy life.
We’re thrilled to announce an extremely generous donation, the largest philanthropic gift in our Plano hospital’s history, from Bright Industries for our Plano campus expansion. We’re incredibly grateful to the Bright family for their long history of philanthropic efforts and continuous support of us. We’ll name the new Plano emergency department currently under construction with the Bright name. We're touched and honored by this donation which will help us as we continue our mission to make life better for children.
Omicron is the most widespread variant in the U.S. and accounts for about 98% of all new COVID‑19 cases in the country. While many parents are feeling COVID-fatigue, our experts say not to let your guard down.
We're celebrating two of our very special volunteers, Janice and Ernie, as they retire from our Volunteer Services program. Having spent 53 years at our Dallas campus, Janice is our longest-serving volunteer and Ernie has spent the last 22 years with us. Combined, the husband and wife duo have clocked in over 26,000 volunteer hours, making their mark on countless patients, families and team members over the years. We will miss seeing them both!
The beautiful trees at our Dallas, Plano and Our Children's House campuses are lit and shining bright! To keep the holiday spirit alive and all our patients safe, we live-streamed our tree lighting celebrations for everyone to see. With the help of our patient, Angeles, Santa used his magic to light all of our trees. What a special night!
