Noteworthy updates include an inviting fire pit and modern cabanas, as well as improvements to the pool and bar spaces in the lobby and rooftop. Additionally, the hotel’s food and beverage menu has undergone enhancements, adding flavorful dishes that cater to diverse tastes and preferences. In honor of Women's History Month this March, Continental Properties proudly reflects on its commitment to fostering an inclusive and empowering workplace environment. Continental Properties is proud to share that its Chief Executive Officer, Jim Schloemer, has been elected to serve a two-year term as Chair of the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) Board. The announcement was made at the NMHC 2024 Annual Meeting, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, California, on January 30, 2024. Jim Schloemer, along with Steve Wagner, SVP of Acquisitions, and Rich Bell, founded Continental Properties in 1979. Jim’s leadership has been instrumental in the company’s rise as a leading national real estate developer and operator, specializing in rental home communities, retail, and hospitality. Having served as an Officer on the NMHC Board for the last six years, Jim’s election as Chair of the NMHC board reflects his commitment to advancing the multifamily housing industry. Reflecting on his election, Jim shared his intentions for the new role: "The apartment and rental home industry plays a vital role in providing quality housing for over one-third of our country’s population. At the same time, we face a shortage of housing that is financially attainable for our growing workforce. I look forward to working with NMHC members and staff and policymakers at the local, state, and federal level to help meet America’s rental housing needs."
In February, Continental Properties embarked on a vibrant celebration of Black History Month dedicated to honoring the profound contributions of the Black community. Through a series of engaging and educational resources, Continental reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to building community through the Continental IDEA. Our festivities kicked off with a blend of fun and interactive activities. Among these was a virtual quote wall, where team members shared their favorite quote, paying homage to the enduring voices that have shaped Black history. Additionally, we delved into a Resource Guide spotlighting Black inventors and scientists whose groundbreaking innovations left a mark on our world. As the month progressed, we culminated our celebration with a team member-led panel discussion. Moderated by Richard Dillahay, the panelists—Franchesca Harris, Kaitlyn Jacquett, and Akira Alston— discussed their personal career journeys, how inclusiveness and belongingness impacted their experiences, and provided collective wisdom about how to be an ally in the workplace.

Continental is excited to announce its partnership with ArtLifting, an organization dedicated to giving underrepresented artists a platform to share their artwork with others. With a portfolio representing 180 artists across 33 states, ArtLifting focuses on individuals facing housing instability or navigating the unique aspects of living with disabilities. According to the organization’s website, “ArtLifting is about creating opportunity, empowerment, and validation. We offer artists the chance to secure their own income through the sale of original paintings, prints, and products.
