CoorsTek, a leading global manufacturer of technical ceramics, proudly marked the official opening of its state-of-the-art CoorsTek Academy Training Center with a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Wednesday, July 16. The event brought together company leadership, state officials and industry and education partners to celebrate a major milestone in advancing Colorado’s advanced manufacturing workforce. Made possible in part by the State of Colorado’s Opportunity Now grant, the Academy is designed to prepare and upskill the next generation of manufacturing talent. The center will provide immersive, hands-on learning for individuals pursuing careers in advanced manufacturing—an industry that plays a vital role in Colorado’s economic future. “The opening of the CoorsTek Academy Training Center is the realization of a bold vision to shape the future of advanced manufacturing in Colorado,” said Irma Lockridge, Chief People and Systems Officer at CoorsTek. “This facility reflects our commitment to developing talent, fostering innovation, and investing in the people who will lead this industry forward. It's more than a training center—it's a launchpad for meaningful careers and long-term impact.” The Academy is equipped with the latest manufacturing equipment, offering participants a real-world experience as well as curriculum aligned to industry demand.
The CoorsTek Research Fellowship has brought 19 extraordinary PhD candidates to Colorado School of Mines since CoorsTek and the Coors family established it in 2014. The program has been so successful that the company and family have extended funding through 2032 with a multi-million-dollar gift. “This investment goes well beyond funding research,” said Randel Mercer, CoorsTek’s chief technology officer. “It is about building career pathways for future generations of engineers and scientists.” Technical ceramics have an enormous range of critical applications, from biomedical implants and disc brakes to smart phone sensors and jet engine turbines. CoorsTek Fellows work on scientifically interesting technical ceramics projects with many critical applications. They’re supported by Mines’ world-renowned materials science faculty. “The Fellows program has allowed CoorsTek to interact with an extraordinary group of researchers through a platform that encourages a very diverse applicant pool,” Mercer said. “Their projects have covered a broad range of topics in materials science. All have yielded great learning experiences through failures, challenges and discoveries.”
CoorsTek Co-CEO Michael Coors has been appointed to the Colorado School of Mines Board of Trustees by Colorado Governor Jared Polis, and will serve a four-year term as one of the Board’s seven voting members. Michael is an alumnus of the Colorado School of Mines, and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2006. In a recent announcement from the Colorado School of Mines, the school acknowledged Michael’s experience at CoorsTek as a contributing factor to his appointment. Over the past seven years, Michael has helped chart a new strategic direction for CoorsTek by recruiting a new executive leadership team and reorganizing our company’s reporting structure. During Michael’s tenure as Co-CEO, CoorsTek has significantly increased its R&D investment, including building a state-of-the-art materials center in Golden and reducing our manufacturing footprint by 30% while expanding top-line revenue and global reach. CoorsTek has worked with the Colorado School of Mines for decades to support educational efforts related to the advancement of engineered ceramics. In 2014, CoorsTek and the Coors Family committed $27 million to the school to fund the CoorsTek Center for Applied Science and Engineering, an interdisciplinary academic and research facility on the Mines campus.

CoorsTek, announced that it has closed on the acquisition of assets of Avon Protection’s Lexington, Kentucky facility on July 1, 2023. CoorsTek and Avon jointly announced the signing of the acquisition on December 5, 2022, with an anticipated close date by the end of 2023. CoorsTek has been a long-time provider to the aerospace and defense industry. The acquisition enables CoorsTek to further support and engage with the defense industry, specifically on the development and manufacturing of technical ceramic solutions essential for body and aircraft armor. “We are excited to have the employees in Lexington join our team along with adding the facility’s assets to our armor manufacturing business,” said Timothy Coors, CoorsTek CEO. “This investment complements our overall industry portfolio where we have invested over $50 million over the past two years, including a state-of-the-art advanced materials manufacturing campus in Benton, Arkansas.” The Lexington facility and its assets significantly expand the CoorsTek armor manufacturing capacity, supporting the company’s growth strategy in the defense market. By investing in the Lexington facility, the company is increasing its commitment to both the industry and the region.

CoorsTek, a leading global manufacturer of technical ceramics, has signed a long-term agreement with TotalEnergies ENEOS for a 1.5 megawatt-peak (MWp) rooftop and carport solar photovoltaic (PV) system at its 110,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Rayong, Thailand. Expected to generate approximately 2,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable electricity annually, the system will realize significant cost savings for CoorsTek and reduce the company’s carbon footprint by about 840 metric tons of CO2 emissions per year. “We’re excited to partner with TotalEnergies ENEOS to build an onsite solar system that will offset a sizeable portion of our facility’s electric consumption with clean, renewable energy,” said CoorsTek Chief Operating Officer Andy Filson. “It’s truly a win/win situation that aligns with our sustainability mindset and practices. This arrangement allows us to make a positive impact on the environment as well as reduce our electricity costs.”

CoorsTek is pleased to announce that Kevin Ressler is joining the company’s executive leadership team in the role of Chief Commercial Officer. In this position, Ressler will oversee the company’s international commercial functions responsible for driving continued revenue growth. Ressler has a strong track record of driving profit through market driven product innovation, with extensive leadership experience in the semiconductor, telecommunications, and electronics industries. He joins CoorsTek from MKS Instruments, the Massachusetts-based multinational manufacturer of process control solutions for the semiconductor industry where he served most recently as Vice President Pressure and Flow Measurement and Control. Ressler holds a PhD in Electronic Materials Management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor of Science in Ceramic Science and Engineering from Penn State.
