“I first treated patients with AIDS in 1981 during my medical residency in New York City – all of them died. At that time, I never could have imagined that this condition would go on to kill more than 35 million people globally or that there would be 37 million people living with HIV infection in 2017. We must stop this epidemic in our lifetime and spare future generations from this disease. I am continually energized by the passion that our partners around the world have for the fight against HIV and AIDS. While the face of the epidemic differs is various regions of the world, the commitment of the people in those places to end AIDS is similarly inspiring.” Dr. Timothy Mastro serves as FHI 360’s Chief Science Officer, responsible for advancing the quality of science across the organization and growing research and evaluation capabilities in both the natural and social sciences.
