Summer Camp
3 Veritas Preparatory alumni, who have known each other since 8th grade, all decided to go for 3 majors at Arizona State University. Tristan Gaynor, George Heiler, and Kevin Murphy are all pursuing bachelor of science degrees in finance and supply-chain management. Their third majors are computer information systems for Heiler, business data analytics for Murphy and management for Gaynor. Heiler and Murphy also have minors in real estate.
Triple threat: When one major just isn't enough
Emily Michael (Chandler Prep Class of 2012) recently returned to CPA to discuss her current work in the Peace Corps. After graduating from The University of Arizona in 2016 she joined the Peace Corps. Emily is an Education Volunteer in Uganda, serving as a Literacy Specialist at a primary school in Arua, West Nile region. Besides working with teachers and pupils to improve reading, Emily is an advocate and trainer for sexual harassment support and an organizer for HIV interventions both in Arua and across Uganda. She has one more year in Peace Corps working with Catholic Relief Services, where her focus will be supporting a dedicated team improving health outcomes for orphans and vulnerable children.

Trivium Preparatory Academy's Tori Gutierrez is azcentral's Athlete of the Week. Trivium Prep Girl's Soccer is off to a 12-1-1 start this year, only conceding four goals all season. Tori Gutierrez is the brick wall behind Crimson Knight's stellar defense. This season, she has faced 184 shots on goal, saving 178 of them. She's 5-foot-8 -- not as tall as goalkeepers in the 5A and 6A conferences -- but Gutierrez currently leads the state in saves and will be playing D-I soccer next year for Boise State. Gutierrez uses her athleticism and instincts to play bigger than her size. She is a sweeper keeper, directing defenders and charging out of her box to help start counter attacks. A risky way to play the position, but it's what Gutierrez prefers. "It's much more exciting to play outside of the box than in it," Gutierrez said. "I just have to pay close attention to the other team's forwards."

This past weekend, Great Hearts Monte Vista scholars and their parents, along with several of our scholars in Boy Scouts, participated in Wreaths Across America. They placed wreaths on the headstones of fallen soldiers and their family members at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.

Scottsdale Preparatory Academy's Travis Clement, or "Mr. C" as many of his students call him, was diagnosed with renal disease as a child. He knew a transplant was inevitable, and now the surgery is about a month away.
