Black History Month, celebrated each February, honors the achievements and impact of Black leaders, artists, scientists, and innovators who have shaped our society. This month, we highlight a trailblazer in the financial services industry: Joseph Searles III. In February 1970, Searles became the first Black floor broker at the New York Stock Exchange. His distinguished career also included roles as vice president of public finance at Manufacturers Hanover Trust Co., deputy commissioner of the New York City Economic Development Administration, and the first chairman of Harlem's 125th Street Business Improvement District. Searles was deeply committed to supporting Black businesses in New York City and organized the city's first minority franchising fair in 1969. Representation is important not just in our industry—but in all industries. Black History Month serves as a powerful reminder to recognize and amplify the invaluable contributions of Black leaders, past and present, who inspire progress and innovation. Let’s honor their legacies by continuing to build a future where diversity drives success.
We had the pleasure of welcoming corporate new hires to our Chicago office for their onboarding. It was an exciting day filled with introductions, learning, and a new hire celebration in the late afternoon. Our new team members had the opportunity to meet and connect with colleagues across various departments, fostering a sense of community and collaboration from day one. Joined on the far left by Chief Operating Officer Michael DiBiasio, the new hires (starting from the second left) are: • Javier De La Torre – Accounting & Finance • Alex Guarraci – Accounting & Finance • Catherine O'Regan - Accounting & Finance • Samara Williams – Accounting & Finance • Simon Hay – Investment Solutions • Ali Farhat – Accounting & Finance • Szymon Makowski – Real Estate (not pictured) We are thrilled to have such talented individuals join our team and look forward to the valuable contributions they will bring to Hightower Advisors.
Today, we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose commitment to equality and justice continues to inspire us. His vision for a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect still resonates today. As we reflect on his contributions, let’s remember the importance of fostering inclusivity and actively working to create positive change in our communities.
Our Philanthropy Committee has been hard at work in 2024, organizing fundraisers and volunteer events that support various organizations and make an impact in our communities. Giving back is a core part of Hightower's values, and we are proud to share some of the highlights: • Feeding America: Hightower advisors and corporate employees raised $102,150, which provided approximately 1 million meals to those in need, helping to combat food insecurity and providing essential support for families across the country. • Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana: Chicago corporate employees prepared and served more than 100 meals to families at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana, which provides free housing for families with hospitalized children. • Back 2 School America: Chicago corporate employees assembled 125 back-to-school kits for Chicago children in need, donating them to partnered schools to help ensure students had the necessary supplies for the school year. As we look ahead to 2025, we are excited to continue our philanthropic efforts and hope to make an even bigger impact in the coming year!
May this new year bring prosperity, growth, and new opportunities. Here’s to making 2025 our best year yet!
What a night to remember! Last Thursday, Hightower corporate employees gathered at Lincoln Hall in Chicago for our annual holiday party. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our achievements and enjoy each other's company! Everyone enjoyed delicious food and drinks, live music, and plenty of laughs from a local comedian. Hightower CEO Bob Oros even took the stage to present winners of the Well-thie Awards with their prizes. Thank you to everyone who made this event so special. Here's to a successful year and many more celebrations to come!
