Intermountain Health Cody Clinic opened June 12 in its new expanded location offering increased space for a number of healthcare services. The newly expanded clinic is a continuation of Intermountain’s commitment to the Cody area and its longstanding partnership with Cody Regional Health to ensure Wyoming residents have easy access to high-quality healthcare services. “Improving the health of the communities we serve is our number one goal, and the new healthcare services in this space help our caregivers deliver on our mission in Cody,” said Jeffrey Zavala, MD, vice president and chief medical officer for the medical group in the Wyoming/Montana region. “We want the people in this community to know that our door is open, and our caregivers are ready to provide them and their families with quality healthcare.”
The Jubilee of Trees is calling all designers, community groups, businesses, and individuals to volunteer for its 40th anniversary holiday event to benefit patient care at St. George Regional Hospital by increasing the hospital’s capacity to care for the community with world-class surgical services. “We are grateful for the generations of community members supporting Jubilee of Trees,” said Loriana De Crescenzo, executive director of Intermountain Foundation at St. George Regional Hospital. “We invite them – as well as community members wanting to volunteer for the first time -- to ‘Believe in the Magic of Christmas’ in July and join us in creating the most beautiful event yet.” “July is an exciting time for us to gather around doing good in our communities, and engage with one another in support of a common cause into the holiday season,” De Crescenzo said. Jubilee of Trees will be held Sunday, Nov. 19, through Tuesday, Nov. 21, at the Dixie Convention Center in St. George, UT.
Intermountain Health’s Colorado hospitals were recognized by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for efforts to offer healthier food and beverage options and promote breastfeeding through the Colorado Healthy Hospital Compact and Colorado Baby-Friendly Hospital Collaborative. The initiatives are part of the state’s work to promote healthy eating and active living to reduce rates of death and disease from chronic illness among Coloradans. Only 45 hospitals in Colorado received the honor, and it’s an even bigger achievement since Intermountain is the first health system in Colorado to have each of its hospitals participate in the Compact. The care sites include St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Good Samaritan Medical Center in Lafayette, Platte Valley Medical Center in Brighton, Lutheran Medical Center in Wheat Ridge, and Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver.
Intermountain Health is opening a new Intermountain Surgery Center on the campus of The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital-TOSH in Murray, which will specialize in outpatient orthopedic procedures for hips, knees, and spinal procedures among other orthopedic treatments. This is the seventh ambulatory surgery center (ASC) Intermountain has opened in Utah. An additional eight surgery centers are planned by 2024. The state-of-the-art facility includes eight operating rooms. Patients will enjoy spacious recovery rooms after their procedures are finished, where they can relax until it’s time to go home. “It’s incredible how far we’ve come in surgery care and this ASC is going to be another major step in quality healthcare,” said Nathan Momberger, MD, orthopedic surgeon at the Intermountain Surgery Center on TOSH Campus. “Orthopedic surgeries that used to take hours and require several nights in the hospital, can now be done in an hour with patients home in their bed that night.”

Pregnancy is an exciting yet challenging time. With so much to prepare, it can be difficult to stay on track with varied doctor appointments and making healthy choices. These decisions significantly impact the well-being of babies, and frequent consideration can be crucial. The Baby Bootique, an incentive program at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, CO, addresses this. The Baby Bootique program is run out of the Saint Joseph’s clinics offering obstetrical services, the Seton Women’s Center and the Family Medicine Center. It motivates expectant patients, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, in their journey towards healthy pregnancies. To reward healthy choices, the Baby Bootique provides participants with coupons that can be exchanged for essential items such as clothing, diapers, and car seats. By offering tangible benefits, the program ensures expectant parents have access to necessary resources, which can alleviate financial burdens and contribute to overall baby health.
Working in healthcare can sometimes expose us to moments that can only be described as our “worst days.” We are confronted with the heart-wrenching reality of unexpected losses – whether it’s the death of a patient, a cherished member of our team, or a team member’s family. How we respond as a health system presents a valuable opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to caring for those we work with – the individual, the team and the leaders who are providing support. Hear from Anne Pendo, Senior Medical Director of Provider Experience, on how Intermountain Health cares for caregivers and teams during challenging times.
During the 2022-2023 school year, Intermountain Primary Children’s Hospital caregivers took time from their usual duties to work as teachers, mentors, presenters, facilitators and role models for high school students as part of the new Healthcare Career Academy. Dr. Erin Avondet and her amazing team of residents and med students volunteered their time to teach the curriculum. Going beyond typical lists of risk factors for disease, they taught students how to advocate for public health in their communities and address upstream causes of health problems such as social, economic, and political factors. The students learned how policy choices and resource distribution can advance or hinder health equity. Other Primary Children’s caregivers presented about their own career paths, exposing youth to career options ranging from nurse to medical assistant to “logo-changing person” (as one enthusiastic youth referred to their favorite presenter, a marketing and communications professional). “I loved hearing about all the different parts that help keep a hospital running. I felt like it gave me a much more developed understanding of all the career possibilities I could have,” said one student.
Hospital food often gets a bad rap, but not at Intermountain, where the culinary team treats the food like medicine and delivers healthy, flavorful, made-to-order meals to patients every day! Alex Govern, corporate executive chef, recently spoke with KSL TV about the fresh approach to hospital dining.
