Three local physicians plan to join the practice with an anticipated start date of early August. “This is a wonderful opportunity to continue to grow the high-quality women’s services and cancer care that we currently provide to our region,” said Jen Alderfer, president of St. Vincent Healthcare & Montana | Wyoming Market for Intermountain Health. “Women in Montana and Wyoming will now have more access to life-saving treatments closer to home.” We were able to give our friends at KULR8 News a tour of the nearly completed new facility. Sidney, CFO for Children’s Health, recently spent a day out on the patient floor of Primary Children’s in Salt Lake City wearing scrubs. It started with McCall, the assistant nurse manager who accompanied him. With help from Intermountain’s tuition reimbursement program, she’s pursuing her MSN at Weber State University, and she’s been shadowing Sid to earn some of her admin practicum hours. Experiencing the admin side of Primary Children’s has widened McCall’s perspective, like getting “a bird’s eye view.” Sid asked McCall to return the favor and let him shadow her for a day. What did our CFO take away from his day as a clinical caregiver? (Or at least, looking like one?) “The reason we're doing all those things is for the people I met, and it actually makes a difference to them. That's why we do the things we do: to plan, to manage expenses, to look at our revenues, to try to forecast accurately what our staffing and hiring needs are going to be. It's so we all work as seamlessly as possible for those who are here so their kids will get better and they can go home.”

Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital in St. George, UT is opening six additional behavioral health unit beds this month to enhance community access to these vital services. The additional beds are added to the total number of behavioral health rooms at 24, with creating double occupancy in several rooms if needed. The inpatient rooms provide a safe resource to community members needing behavioral health treatment when they are at the highest risk of trauma. “Intermountain recently conducted our Community Health Needs Assessment, and addressing mental and behavioral health surfaced as the number one health care priority,” said Mitch Cloward, administrator of Intermountain St. George Regional Hospital. “Expanding the number of behavioral health beds is part of our stewardship to directly respond to our community’s needs and advance critical services. We continue to remain laser-focused on doing the right thing for all our patients, helping with medical needs regardless of ability to pay.”

In 1996, she was part of the original team to launch the St. Vincent Transfer Center and has worked with the team ever since. When reflecting on her long career, Ellie shared that the people and the fulfilling work have kept her here at St. V's for more than 50 years. She shares advice and guidance for young nurses planning the next steps in their careers ."There is so much opportunity for nurses now," she shared. "Find an area where your passion is.
