Intermountain Health has been named on the Women Tech Council’s 2023 Shatter List, an annual collection of top companies creating inclusive, empowering cultures for female workers. Intermountain and 40 other organizations made the list for building inclusive cultures with meaningful measures that help women break and surpass the glass ceiling in technology. Additionally, Intermountain has been an honoree every year since the list’s inception in 2018. “We’re honored that we made the list and that our leadership team and Intermountain as a whole support and empower our female workers,” said Suzie Draper, vice president of Business Ethics and Compliance. “Intermountain has invested in developing an internal program designed to empower and support women in leadership and women in technology by mentorship and coaching, leadership training, and networking opportunities,” she said.
For years, Mike Wood, operations director of critical care for St. George Regional Hospital in St. George, UT, has seen the impact organ donors can have on the life of a person in need; often serving as a spokesperson touting the crucial need for organ donation. Last year, inspired by an article he read in an Intermountain Health publication about a good Samaritan donor, and drawing on more than a decade of professional experience on the organ donation committee, Mike decided to take his commitment to a whole new level by donating one of his kidneys to a stranger. About a month after surgery, Mike found out just how much of an impact he had made. Not everyone wants, or is offered the opportunity, to connect with the organ recipient. But in Wood’s case, the man who received his kidney sent a letter expressing his heartfelt gratitude. Mike hopes that his experience will open people’s minds to the fact that living donation is an option, including the donation of a kidney, or part of the liver.
For Intermountain’s 14th annual Totally Awesome Innovation (TAI) Awards, Supply Chain caregivers across all regions submitted projects that cumulatively saved more than $1.4 million in costs and more than 400 labor hours. The TAI Awards encourage caregivers to find improvements, big or small, in their everyday tasks. “The TAI awards recognize the many individual efforts that drive team success, creative ideas, and challenge status quo,” said Brent Wigington, SCO senior director of Operations Integration. “They also celebrate the many team achievements that make Intermountain successful.” The year’s top prize, the Pinnacle Award, was led by Michelle Ereaux and Curtis Shcmidt from Holy Rosary Hospital in Miles City, MT. The Holy Rosary team noticed that their operating room had very limited visibility of its inventory. Caregivers installed a system pick line which enabled Holy Rosary caregivers the ability to streamline case picking, stocking, inventory management, and patient supply billing for procedures. The project was able to capture over $300,000 in lost revenue.

Intermountain’s investment in caregiver and leader development and careers has been recognized with the prestigious Associate for Talent Development global recognition, the BEST Award. The BEST Award is for “organizations that demonstrate enterprise-wide success as a result of employee talent development.” Intermountain’s HR Learning Center of Excellence in collaboration with Clinical Education, the Simulation Center, the Equity Office, Talent Acquisition, and AskHR lead shared strategies that stood out from other applicants. The approach moves away from simply delivering education to a strategy of enabling caregivers to create their own learning and career pathways. By working together, these teams are able to provide unique programs and opportunities to help caregivers and leaders achieve their goals. At the same time, the teams ensure that the workforce is equipped with the skills for today and are prepared for the future.
