Recently, students and faculty from Clark Atlanta University visited our Herald Square flagship for an intensive development workshop hosted by executives and colleagues. The workshop was part of a $100k grant from Macy’s Future of Style Fund, a program created to provide resources and scholarships to the next generation of designers and creators. Clark Atlanta University’s Art and Fashion Department will use this critical funding to provide deserving students with scholarships, produce the department’s annual Fashion Week event, and purchase equipment. During the visit, the students had a fireside chat with Adrian Mitchell, CFO & COO, and heard career advice from Nata Dvir, Chief Merchandising Officer, and other leaders in store, design, and merchandising. They also had opportunities to visit Denim Studio and attend a styling and beauty workshop hosted by MyStylist team. Each student was matched with a mentor from ONYX CRG, and we launched a mentorship program to help students gain valuable insights about careers in retail and industry trends.

Ensuring young people are given the tools and resources to succeed remains a vital mission for everyone at Macy’s. Since 2021, we’ve donated over $3M to UNCF, benefiting 450+ HBCU students through academic scholarships. In honor of Black History Month, we’re partnering with UNCF to fund scholarships for more students. 70% of UNCF scholars graduate from college, nine percentage points higher than the national average for all students at four-year colleges. Colleagues and customers are encouraged to join us January 15th-February 29th through in-store round ups and online donations. Together we can create a brighter future for our youth.
From August to November, more than 2,000 Macy’s, Inc. colleagues enrolled in our 2023 Career Expo events. The Expo featured smaller-scale, interest-based and highly interactive sessions focused on building the skills needed for career growth. It also provided professional colleagues opportunities to see the career possibilities within Macy's, Inc. Participating leaders from Macy's and Bloomingdale's shared their career stories and provided colleagues with great insight on career development during sessions such as Career Journeys and Let's Talk Skills. Other popular events included Build Your Career Plan, How do I Talk to my People Leader About my Career, and a three-part series exclusively for People Leaders, where experts discussed building trust, receiving and providing feedback, and making connections.
