Students from Hardy Williams High visited a state-of-the-art Services and Logistics Center (SLC) thanks to an innovative partnership between Mastery Schools and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, funded by a nearly $20-million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies, that will train students for in-demand healthcare careers. The Hardy High School annual Back to School BBQ was extra special this year thanks to guests from Children's Hospital of Philadelphia who joined the fun to share critical information about our groundbreaking partnership to create a health care-focused high school. Starting in August 2025, Hardy High will train students for in-demand careers in clinical care, hospital operations, and health care administration, and upon graduation, Hardy graduates who complete the program will be eligible for jobs available at CHOP. We are thrilled to work closely with CHOP and Bloomberg Philanthropies to launch this initiative that will change the lives of our students and help us fulfill our mission of preparing students for success after graduation.

Exciting milestone! We just welcomed the 13th cohort of the Sage Financial-Mastery Early College Partnership in memory of David M. Cohn (Mastery@CCP). Through this dual enrollment program, 47 of our Philadelphia seniors are taking college courses at The Community College of Philadelphia, gaining real-world experience and earning 15-22 college credits before graduation.

Meet Mastery leaders Walter Bounds and Erica Cruz, two new assistant principals of instruction (API), who joined the Mastery community for school year 2024-2025. As leaders, both bring their passion and knowledge to help fulfill our mission on their campuses.

A letter from Mastery Schools CEO Friends & Members of the Mastery Community, At Mastery Schools, we know what is required of us to help students live rewarding lives after graduating high school. We are committed to disrupting inequity and this commitment drives the belief that the work we do is critical. Since 2001, we have expanded to 23 schools and are educating 14,000 students across Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Camden, New Jersey. This growth is credited to our track record of turning around historically underperforming schools. While we have pride in our accomplishments and the growth of our scholars, we know not ALL students have met success upon graduation. With that, we know we need to generate stronger and more consistent outcomes for students. The strategic plan, which will be implemented over the course of five years from 2024 to 2029, intends to do the work to ensure all students thrive in whichever post-secondary path they take. Elevate 215 announces the award of $160,000 in planning grants to four Philadelphia high schools: Building 21 Philadelphia, Imhotep Institute Charter High School, Mastery Charter Shoemaker, and Sankofa Freedom Academy Charter School. The schools are recognized for “beating the odds” (BTO) by producing graduates who are thriving after high school. “These high schools have developed intentional and effective models that utilize innovative practices to prepare their students for post-secondary success,” said Stacy Holland, Executive Director of Elevate 215. “Our goal is to collaborate with the schools over the next few months to create action plans that will further accelerate student growth and ensure long-term success.” The selected high schools were identified through data analysis based on specific demographic, income and performance criteria. The application process required schools to highlight a promising practice they plan to enhance or scale in their programming. Each selected school has been awarded a $40,000 planning grant.

During our annual One Team Day, staff from the central office visited all 23 schools to help new Mastery teachers set up their classrooms and prepare campus spaces for an incredible school year ahead. The day of service ended with a BBQ celebration to build on the excitement as we prepare to welcome the rest of our amazing staff next week.
