Mastery Schools has been chosen to represent Philadelphia in the Healthcare Education Initiative, an innovative effort funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies that aims to bring health systems and education providers together to launch healthcare-focused high schools to prepare students for high-demand, well-paying jobs in healthcare after graduation. We are proud to partner with Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), one of the nation’s leading pediatric hospitals, on this effort – and flattered that CHOP explicitly selected Mastery as a partner due to its dedication to rigor and results. We will launch in September 2025 and share more details as the planning gets underway. In the meantime, you can learn more about the partnership via the links below.

WE SERVE: On Monday, students and staff from multiple campuses displayed their passion for service while participating in #MLKDayofService. We are thankful to our staff for planning thoughtful events to highlight the importance of community service and to our students for rising to the occasion and taking action to complete beautification efforts and projects to help those less fortunate. Another special highlight was the First Lady of New Jersey, Tammy Murphy, joining our CEO, Dr. Joel Boyd, at Mastery High School of Camden to volunteer.

Mastery Lenfest Campus alumna Amani Khabeer is making waves fighting the record-high number of child drownings in Louisiana. Her success in swimming, which began in middle school and continued at Lenfest, led her to become the first Black swimmer and first Black swim captain on the Mansfield University swim team – an accomplishment she does not take lightly. Now, Amani is on a mission to help people overcome their fear of water and learn how to swim through her organization Brown Girls Swim. This past weekend, #BMEC2023 brought together more than 1,300 Black male educators, administrators, activists, policymakers, and more to build community and collectively discuss ways to improve student outcomes and school communities. We are so thankful to Sharif El-Mekki and the Center for Black Educator Development for cultivating this inspiring space for Black educators – including 25+ from Mastery Schools – to gather, share, and learn.

Mastery Schools' Director of Recruitment Operations Anthony Buatti says efficient hiring is critical to ensure that students get access to a great education under the direction of highly qualified staff. Last week, volunteers from the M&T Bank Charitable Foundation donated more than 150 coats to our Smedley Elementary School. M&T Bank is a long-time supporter of Mastery Schools and has established an especially strong partnership with Smedley Elementary over the past five years- donating playground equipment, sponsoring the school’s annual holiday event, and running financial literacy workshops for students. “Serving our community is the heart of the M&T Bank Charitable Foundation. We take great pride in our partnership with Smedley Elementary as we work together to empower and equip students with the knowledge and resources needed to succeed,” said Cassandra Bell, Vice President and Charitable Foundation Senior Regional Program Officer at M&T. Our thanks go out to Cassandra and the many M&T employees and volunteers who contributed to this effort.

Mastery Schools CEO, Dr. Joel Boyd, proudly welcomed City of Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen, Camden City Council President Angel Fuentes, and Camden School Board President Wasim Muhammad to Cramer Hill Elementary to show how our Renaissance Schools are working for students and their families. Students at Cramer Hill are exceeding national growth trends in both math and reading and in 2022, the school was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. We value strategic partnerships with city leaders who continue to support our mission of preparing students for success after graduating.
