Breanna has always loved animals and experienced first-hand the value facility dogs bring to healthcare. She looks forward to working with Gertie to enhance our patients’ experience and help facilitate their treatment plans. A nursing manager at Phoenix Children’s Emergency Department — Avondale Campus, Theresa received 17 award nominations! Team consensus: Theresa was instrumental throughout the transition of our West Valley urgent care center into a multi-bed emergency department. Since opening the facility, she has set high standards for patient care and clinical operations — holding herself and her team accountable for clinical excellence. She fosters a collaborative team culture, encourages open lines of communication, and promotes the highest level of professionalism and teamwork. In addition to working closely with patient families to ensure they fully understand their child’s condition and medical journey, Megan works tirelessly behind the scenes to help develop and implement clinical pathways and programs designed to enhance and advance patient care. She has shared her experience and expertise presenting at industry events for organizations like the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association and American Speech Language Hearing Association. Alysha Mahunik, MS, CCC-SLP, a speech pathologist at Phoenix Children’s, uses a diagnostic procedure called video fluoroscopic swallow study (VFSS) to evaluate a child’s ability to safely and effectively swallow. FVSS involves monitoring a child’s swallowing mechanism via X-ray as they ingest different barium-coated foods and liquids. VFSS helps identify swallowing abnormalities so our speech pathology team can determine the most appropriate interventions or treatments.
