During Phoenix Children's 46th annual Pediatric Update conference, injury prevention team members educated U.S.-based providers about our pediatric drowning prevention program, which helps promote water safety during well-child visits.
Pediatric Drowning Prevention Program
Undergoing an MRI or CT scan (also known as a CAT scan), can be stressful for kids. That’s why Phoenix Children’s offers several tools and resources to help make the experience less intimidating. One such tool is a kitten scanner, courtesy of Philips — a 3 ft. high replica of our actual CAT scanner. Prior to undergoing their own scan, children can practice scanning a toy character of their choice. With built-in digital capabilities, these toys give children a better understanding of how the scanner works and what it does.

Dr. Vladimir Kalinichenko will serve as director of Phoenix Children’s Research Institute at the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix. Dr. Kalinichenko is internationally renowned for his research in lung development and regeneration. His appointment is part of a long-term, strategic effort to greatly advance pediatric research in Arizona and beyond and bring bench-to-bedside treatments to our patients.

Phoenix Children’s is proud to carry on the longstanding Heart Healthy outreach program first spearheaded 20 years ago by now retired cardiologist, Dr. Elaine Niggeman (right). This educational program is designed to inspire children at local elementary schools to maintain heart-healthy habits and possibly consider a career in medicine. In the last five years, Dr. Lisa Grimaldi (not pictured), a pediatric cardiac intensive care physician at Phoenix Children’s, has helped expand the program to include interactive programming with anatomical demonstrations and additional physicians, like Phoenix Children’s Dr. Christopher Knoll (left) and Jennifer Hann, PA-C (center).
