Congratulations, Vinny Chulani, MD, Chief of the Section of Adolescent Medicine at Phoenix Children’s, for recently serving as co-author on The Society for Adolescent Health's (SAHM) position paper, Racism and Its Harmful Effects on Nondominant Racial–Ethnic Youth and Youth-Serving Providers: A Call to Action for Organizational Change. SAHM is the first professional organization to release a position paper on this critical topic. The SAHM positions provide recommendations for healthcare providers to routinely assess youth experiences of racism and its potential impact. Their positions also reflect the concerns of healthcare providers, trainees and students from non-dominant racial and ethnic backgrounds who may themselves be potentially impacted by racism and vicarious trauma.

Dr. Roy Jedeikin is not your average pediatric cardiologist. He is a hero to his patients. And now he has just been recognized as a Health Care Hero by the Phoenix Business Journal. As an example of his dedication to patients, Dr. Jedeikin stays a part of their lives even beyond medical care: “I see patients for decades. I've got infants, I have 30-year-olds, I have 1-year-olds, I have a few 60-year-olds,” he said. “But what's important to me, what is the most impactful and the most rewarding way for me to give back is by going to baptisms, birthdays, weddings and even funerals, where I'm in a different space to celebrate a life or celebrate an occasion.” Congrats on this great honor, Dr. Jedeikin! PCCN is also first pediatric network in the U.S. to achieve Utilization Review Accreditation Committee (URAC) accreditation as a clinically integrated network.

Meridith recently got promoted to Clinical Supervisor of the Outpatient Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Department, but her Phoenix Children's journey didn't start there. It was on the Emergency Department (ED) and Hematology/Oncology floor at the Hospital during her nursing school clinicals, where Meridith fell in love with pediatrics and Phoenix Children's; so much so, on her last shift she introduced herself to the ED manager and asked for a job as an ED tech. She eventually made her way over to Orthopedics, married her best friend, Seth, who is pictured to the right, and is still happy as ever to be a Phoenix Children's employee.
