Phoenix Children's Employee Spotlight! Kristina Bignoli leads Phoenix Children's outstanding wellness program which recently received two awards! When she isn't motivating us to get our steps in and to make healthy choices, you can find Kristina hiking trails with her German Shepard, Maya. - What is your favorite thing about working at Phoenix Children’s? Serving the employees. It is an honor to part of an institution that has made such an impact on my hometown. I see my role as a chance to give back to those that give so much to others. - What do you enjoy doing in your free time? A great hike, a hot yoga class, hanging with my German Shepherd, Maya, and checking out an amazing local restaurant are great ways to spend free time. - What is your favorite thing about Phoenix? Being a native, it has to be nine months of awesome weather and the variety of outdoor activities that goes with it.

The Arizona Perinatal Trust was onsite at Phoenix Children's for its triennial NICU survey and re-verified our NICU as a Level 3 nursery for the next three years. Level 3 NICUs provide hospital services for all newborns requiring subspecialty and intensive care at all gestational ages. Led by Dr. Deborah Tom, Kathleen Moore, Kristin Niehoff and Barb Harvey, the Arizona Perinatal Trust surveyors were very complimentary of the unit. Many special accolades were given, including the team's quality and safety focus around rounding and team conferences, nursing education, discharge education, use of breast milk and lactation awards received in the past three years. Many thanks as well to our IT Department for the Virtual Visit cameras - a PCH NICU exclusive! Congratulations, everyone! Read more about our NICU: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQ4Nh

The hot topic in and outside medical organizations is Medicaid and health care. Our CEO Bob Meyer joined the conversion yesterday at the Arizona Capitol Times Morning Scoop panel to weigh in with experts on health care issues affecting Arizona. Bob discussed how the Senate bill’s proposed cuts to Medicaid carry dire consequences, saying if these cuts are put in place, “every children’s hospital in the United States will close.” Read more from the panel discussion in the Arizona Capitol Times article here: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQ44A Our patient families are our number one concern and we want to be certain their care is top of mind as decisions are made about the future of Medicaid.
