María works at Primrose School of Madison in Alabama. She brings her classroom experience, 17 years teaching Spanish, and the educational legacy of her mother, who taught in public schools for 25 years. She brings an understanding of what children need to thrive, as a mom of three and grandmother of two. And she brings the richness of her childhood in Puerto Rico and Spain. The Primrose principle of “belongingness” is alive every day in school, says María, who is the school’s education coordinator. “Belongingness is a big word, but it’s very simple,” she says. “It’s feeling at home, feeling that you are part of something, that you are not excluded. That your ideas, ways of thinking and cultural traditions are part of the environment.” María partners with school leaders and families to learn about their cultures. They celebrate elements of Diwali, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa. “It’s a great opportunity to use the curriculum, to practice belongingness, and the kids are very open to sharing activities and the things they do with their parents and grandparents,” she says. Bringing the curriculum to life is at the heart of María’s job as education coordinator. She started at Primrose as a Pre-K teacher before joining leadership and is now supporting all teachers. “As teachers, we are making a big impact,” she says. “I consider it a privilege.” Visit our open opportunities to find a teaching position near you.

Amanda has seen the power of a great teacher as both a mom & a teacher. The first toddlers she cared for at Primrose School of Gainesville are now in their 20s & Amanda still hears from their parents. “One mom, when her son graduated high school, said I really made an impact on his life.” Amanda’s son attended Primrose from 6 weeks old to after school care through age 12. Today, he’s in college studying business, with aspirations of fashion design. He taught himself to sew & has been recognized at his job for his hard work. Amanda has risen through the ranks at Primrose, having started teaching there right after high school. She felt supported, but today’s teachers have even more help in place. “Primrose is a wonderful first opportunity. Everything is laid out for the teachers to know exactly what to do, even if it’s their first job. We give them the tools to perform to the highest degree.” Amanda was promoted to leadership quickly, first as operations director & then to area director, a job she’s held for 11 years. No matter her role, she credits the Primrose culture for keeping her around so long. The satisfaction of knowing that her work two decades ago is still reaping rewards in the life of young people today motivates her, too. “It’s so nice that 20 years later, the parents still remember the love I gave their child.” Looking for a job where your efforts will be remembered for years to come? Becca used to consider herself an introvert. She didn’t initiate conversations or relationships easily, but “that has completely changed” since she started at Primrose School of Mount Pleasant. “The confidence is noticeable by my family. I’m more driven than ever” she says. Becca rose from a school support role, to teaching in the Young Toddler classroom, before being promoted to education coach. Now, Becca supports teachers & ensures that the Primrose Balanced Learning® curriculum is being implemented. “I help the teachers with whatever they need to have a successful classroom.” She loves that Primrose allows staff to “give each child the attention they deserve” while also working as part of a team. “I discovered, if there is a challenge, I want to solve it collaboratively. We are proud to announce Primrose Schools has received two Gold Stevie® Awards in the 2023 American Business Awards! The awards are in honor and recognition of our Franchise Owners and staff and Support Team's collective hard work and dedication to early education and care. Primrose Schools won the Gold PR Campaign of the Year award for establishing and executing the inaugural National Day of Belongingness on September 29 to help children feel included and nurture respect, kindness and understanding from an early age through books, at-home activities and other resources. The Gold Stevie Award® for PR Campaign of the Year in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion category was awarded to Primrose Schools for establishing National Day of Belongingness and its commitment to creating and maintaining an environment where everyone feels included and where similarities and differences are nurtured and respected.

As Primrose School of Buford’s lead Pre-K teacher for 19+ years, Cindy Wertz has learned the value of little moments with big meaning. Whether it’s a student learning a letter or taking deep breaths instead of yelling, that’s when Cindy knows her efforts are working. “There are moments every day when you can say, ‘This is what I’ve been working toward,’”. Cindy was drawn to Primrose’s Balanced Learning® approach: building academic, social & emotional skills. Her mantra to her students is “practice makes you better. “I want to build their confidence so they can enter a new situation & feel they’re going to succeed,” she says. “Some kids come to me knowing all their letters. Some know one or two. As long as there’s growth, I’m happy.” When Cindy sees her families outside of school, they approach her with warmth & excitement. Adrienne Sumter showed caregiving skills early on. From helping in her church nursery to caring for her sister’s baby, she says being able to lend a helping hand made her who she is today. In 2016, Adrienne became one of the founding teachers of Primrose School of Mount Pleasant. “It was a special moment for me,” she says. “When I came to this place, I felt like, this is top-notch, this is where I need to be.” Her six years there have only deepened her appreciation for babies. “Babies are complex & aware,” she says. Their personalities develop more each day, and Adrienne gets to witness it. “This place has given me a sense of growth, to grow with them. Before I started working with kids, I didn’t have a creative side. Now I’m excited to do artwork with them.” She sleeps “like a rock”, both because of her busy days and because she feels a sense of accomplishment after a day spent nurturing babies. “We’re doing good here,” she says.
