In a Nov. 7 ceremony at The Raley's Companies headquarters in West Sacramento, the Veterans of Foreign Wars conferred their Patriotic Citizen Award on President and Chief Executive Office Keith Knopf for everything The Raley's Companies does to support and honor veterans. "I am deeply honored, and humbly accept this award on behalf of our several hundred veterans who work across our organization," Keith said. "We are humbled by the dedication of our nation's military, and proud to honor these brave and patriotic individuals through our discount program, hiring practices, community contributions and American flags proudly displayed in all of our stores." Fittingly, the nomination for the award came from Raley's team member and Oroville VFW Commander Robert Fager. "It was my pleasure to nominate Keith for this honor for all that Raley's does to support and honor veterans every day," Robert said. "Everything from veterans' special discounts to support of veterans' causes to simple-but-meaningful gestures like U.S. flags in every store--Raley's talks the talk and walks the walk when it comes to saluting and supporting veterans." The VFW award recognizes individuals who offer unsolicited inspirational patriotic service to the community.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), and we’re spotlighting one of our superstar team members. Anastasia – she goes by Stassi for short – has worked at our Woodland store for over a year. She came to us through Yolo Employment Services, a local organization that provides job training and services for individuals with disabilities. Stassi does an amazing job for us and has quickly become a fan favorite among our customers and her fellow employees. “My favorite part about working for Raley's is the people,” she says. “The employees and the customers are always very nice! It’s fun to come to work!” Be sure to say hello to Stassi the next time you see her in our Woodland store. We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to contribute to the workforce and their community. That’s why all Raley’s employees have access to the same great benefits, including employee discounts, competitive weekly pay, medical, dental and vision benefits, paid time off, flexible schedules and more.

As kids throughout our region prepare to return to school, we want to thank Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada for all the great work they are doing for our communities. Their Operation Backpack program provided brand new backpacks, filled with age-appropriate supplies, to over 4,500 students for this school year. For kids impacted by homelessness, poverty and living in the foster care system, having the right tools gives them the confidence and courage to succeed in school. We are so proud to support VOA and their impactful work.

Earlier this month, we were able to take a tour of PRIDE Industries' Roseville operations facility. We learned about their packaging and fulfillment services, supply chain management services and much more. We are very proud to be a long-time partner of PRIDE Industries to help create a more inclusive workforce for people with disabilities.

Last month, we had the wonderful opportunity to attend Volunteers of America’s Reno Works Graduation Ceremony to honor and celebrate the hard work, dedication and success of its graduates. Reno Works is a 12-week workforce development partnership program between Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada, and the City of Reno. The program was created in 2015 to offer homeless individuals a way to recover by addressing employment, social and emotional issues. Reno Works provides employment counseling, referrals, on-the-job training, financial literacy classes and a “Getting Ahead” workshop. The intensive life skills classes give the participants the tools necessary to gain sustained employment and self-sufficiency. Upon graduation, participants receive wrap-around services, including case management. We’re so proud to support VOA and their life-changing work.
