Health insurance is broken, but it doesn't have to stay that way. Calling out the problem is only the beginning. Watch part two of SCAN's latest campaign to learn how SCAN has been acknowledging the problem, fighting for your health, protecting your independence, and serving its members, not profits, since 1977.
“People are stuck in endless cycles of approvals. They’re caught off guard with bills that they didn’t expect. They’re not able to get the drugs that they need authorized... Our opportunity here was to just tell the truth. Rather than painting platitudes of people doing yoga on the beach, we wanted to talk about the stark truth and the experience that many have in the health insurance system today.” SCAN's Chief Marketing Officer Nishant Shukla shares the vision behind SCAN's new 'Health Insurance is Broken' ad campaign and what SCAN is doing to drive change. “The cracks are everywhere. You don’t need to be somebody who works in this industry to know that. You just need to be a patient in American health care,” said SCAN Group CEO Dr. Sachin Jain. Washington, here we come! 🎉 We're excited to announce SCAN is expanding into Washington state and broadening our presence in California and Texas. “This is more than a geographic expansion, it’s a reaffirmation of our mission to meet the needs of seniors at every stage of their aging journey,” said Karen Schulte, President of Medicare at SCAN Health Plan. “In today’s environment, when many insurers are narrowing or exiting their Medicare Advantage offerings, SCAN is stepping up to serve communities that deserve the stability, compassion, and personalized care that come with a nonprofit health plan.” Through these expansions, SCAN will offer plans to nearly nine million Medicare-eligible seniors in its new service areas, while continuing to serve more than 310,000 members across 33 counties in six states: California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, and Washington. “Medicare Advantage works best when it is rooted in community,” said Zack Myers, National General Manager at SCAN Health Plan. “We are entering these new markets with partners who share our values and our commitment to ensuring seniors have access to care that listens to them, meets their needs, and honors their life experience. This includes addressing health disparities and creating benefit designs that meet the cultural and social needs of the people we serve.” Read more at: https://www.scanhealthplan.com/About-SCAN/Press-Releases/Washington-Key-Markets-Expansion

SCAN's message today is the same as it has been since 1977 — health insurance is broken and we're fighting to fix it. And we're proudly launching our new campaign that reinforces this message. “For too long, the industry has normalized the abnormal,” said Dr. Sachin H. Jain, President and CEO of SCAN Health Plan. “We’re not here to paper over the cracks with glossy images of seniors living their best lives. We’re here to name what’s broken and more importantly, commit to fixing it.” With Medicare open enrollment starting October 15, 2025, older adults are once again bombarded with ads portraying aging as carefree and perfect. But the reality is very different: nearly 42% of Medicare beneficiaries report delaying or skipping care due to cost or coverage gaps. We believe it’s time for a new conversation, one rooted in honesty, accountability, and solutions. “We refuse to normalize a broken system,” said Nishant Shukla, SCAN’s Chief Marketing Officer. “This campaign holds us accountable to deliver something different—not perfection, but progress. Our pledge is to fix what doesn’t work and to ensure every senior has the dignity, independence, and peace of mind they deserve as they age.” Read more at: https://www.scanhealthplan.com/About-SCAN/Press-Releases/Not-Just-Another-Medicare-Ad
