Today, SCAN CEO Dr. Sachin Jain testified before the House Ways and Means Committee on strengthening Medicare Advantage for America’s seniors. “The real test is this: what does life look like for older adults with these plans, and what does it look like without them? For too many older adults, it means the difference between stability and insecurity; prevention and crisis; dignity and decline,” said Dr. Sachin H. Jain, CEO of SCAN Group and SCAN Health Plan, during his testimony today before the House Ways and Means Committee’s joint subcommittee hearing on “Medicare Advantage: Past Lessons, Present Insights, Future Opportunities.” Drawing on SCAN’s 50-year history as a mission-driven nonprofit health plan founded by seniors for seniors, he called for a thoughtful approach to MA improvements that preserve the protection and benefits the program offers while improving accountability and quality. In closing, Dr. Jain stated, “We at SCAN are ready to be part of the solution to improve upon Medicare Advantage. We believe in greater transparency. We believe in oversight. We believe in improvement. And we believe in a future where MA fulfills its promise for every older adult in this country who needs it.” To read more, visit: https://www.scanhealthplan.com/About-SCAN/Press-Releases/Sachin-Jain-Testifies-to-Congress
Amplifying Black voices isn't just important—it's essential to building an equitable healthcare system. That's exactly what SCAN's recent event, Joining Minds to Improve Healthcare for African American Seniors, was all about. The Oakland healthcare community of physicians, brokers, community advocates, and current SCAN members came together for a conversation on equity, representation, and action. From insightful panel discussions to recognizing local leaders driving change, this gathering served as a powerful reminder that the path to better health for all begins with collaboration and shared purpose. We were proud to honor the following individuals for their outstanding commitment to advancing health equity: 🏆 Dr. Kim Rhoads - African American Health Equity in Medicine Leadership 🏆 Joseph Ford - Top Broker Impact in African American Markets 🏆 Del Seymour - The Heart of The African American Community Health 🏆 Kimi Watkins-Tartt - Excellence in Public Service for African American Health Special thanks to our event organizers, esteemed speakers, honorees, and everyone who joined us for being part of this meaningful and necessary conversation. Innovation in action! 💡 This year, for Cultivate Week, SCAN held a #Hackathon where Rebels all across the organization came together to brainstorm bold, AI-driven ideas to reimagine how we improve the lives of the seniors we serve. After a day of creativity and collaboration, each group pitched their concepts to a panel of judges—bringing forward solutions that have real potential to positively impact the lives of older adults. A huge thank you to everyone who participated, facilitated, and supported this event—including our amazing vendors and partners. Events like this are more than just a creative exercise—they're how we turn ideas at SCAN into action for our members.
Three years strong and still serving! 🌈💃 We laughed, we danced, and we celebrated love at SCAN's 3rd annual drag show, hosted by our amazing PLAID (People Leading Advocacy, Inclusion & Diversity) Employee Resource Group. A huge thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate and special thanks to our fabulous drag queens for their show-stopping performances, powerful panel discussion, and heartfelt meet and greet. We're proud to be a workplace of Rebels who show up for each other and create space for authenticity, inclusion, and community—not just during #PrideMonth, but all year long.
Happy #Juneteenth from SCAN!
CBS News and Elise Preston recently joined SCAN’s Healthcare in Action (HIA) team—a mobile street medicine group—to witness how compassionate, high-quality care is being delivered directly to older adults experiencing homelessness. The need has never been greater. Nearly 140,000 Americans aged 55 and older are unhoused—a number projected to nearly triple by 2030, according to federal data. As this crisis grows, HIA is meeting it head-on with person-centered care that brings dignity and hope to those who need it most. This work is a powerful reflection of SCAN’s not-for-profit identity and mission driven work to keep seniors healthy and independent. By caring for society's most vulnerable populations—who are too often overlooked by traditional healthcare systems—HIA exemplifies what it means to lead with empathy, dignity, and clinical excellence. "These are folks who are kind of entering the stage where they're starting to have...multiple conflicts, chronic medical conditions that need to be met and they're just not being met." 📺 Watch the full CBS News segment as the crew follows Healthcare in Action CEO Dr. Indu Subaiya MD, MBA, MFA and Associate Physician Daniel Speller, demonstrating their work in the field while addressing potential threats to coverage and the resulting impact on unhoused populations already facing significant barriers to care.
Happy Father's Day from SCAN!
