SCS Engineers Looks Back At 50 Years of Solid Waste Management and Environmental Services April 1, 2020 The environmental consulting and construction firm is celebrating its 50th year in business. Over the past 50 years, SCS Engineers has earned a leadership role in solid waste management and environmental services, which would not have been possible without client and industry support. There were few engineering firms specializing in environmental consulting when SCS was founded in 1970. Today, the firm’s work supports a wide range of environmental solutions in different industries and business sectors. Fifty years ago, no one could have imagined using drones and satellites to collect information to run landfills or businesses in an environmentally safe way.

SCS Engineers Becomes 100% ESOP Owned February 17, 2020 An Employee Stock Ownership Plan, or ESOP, gives employees a stake in the company through stock allocation. Long Beach, CA –SCS Engineers, a leading national environmental consulting and construction firm, recently achieved a significant milestone when it completed a transaction to become 100% employee-owned through its employee stock ownership plan (ESOP). SCS Engineers established its ESOP in 1986, and recently purchased a small number of outstanding shares from minority shareholders, achieving 100% ownership through the ESOP trust. “Our founders could not have imagined that when they launched SCS Engineers in 1970 that we would grow to one of the nation’s most respected environmental engineering consultants with a footprint of more than 70 offices and nearly 1,000 employees across the United States,” said Jim Walsh, PE, BCEE, President and CEO of SCS Engineers.
February 21, 2020 SCS Engineers has expanded into Green Bay to increase our municipal solid waste and electric utility customer support in the Green Bay/Fox Cities area. Jared Omernik, SCS senior project manager, and civil engineer is now in Green Bay and available to provide support for local projects. Jared has worked with many of SCS Engineers’ clients from the Madison office over the past five years. Mr. Omernik has experience as an engineer on a wide variety of civil and environmental engineering projects. He has worked on development, permitting, design, construction, documentation, and compliance for a number of projects in several states.

The new location is more convenient for clients and enhances support to the firm’s growing client base in New England. Joe Dinan heads the SCS Engineers’ environmental services team in Boston. Joseph Dinan, an accomplished project manager and senior scientist heads Boston’s SCS team. Dinan has an excellent record meeting regulatory compliance and accountability for his clients to efficiently permit projects, keep them on budget and maintain the redevelopment schedule while meeting all environmental guidance. His background includes applied sciences including chemistry, microbiology, and environmental and soil sciences. Dinan has successfully managed hundreds of environmental assessment and remediation projects, both domestically and internationally.

The Environmental Business Journal is honoring SCS Engineers® with multiple awards in 2019. EBJ announced the awards on January 23, 2020; the official awards ceremony takes place as part of Environmental Industry Summit XVIII in San Diego, California, on Thursday, March 19, 2020. “Assisting our clients with sustainable approaches for managing air, water, and soil resources and pollution prevention is a key driver in our business,” said Bob Gardner, a Senior Vice President of SCS Engineers. “Offsetting as much of the cost by improving operations, lowering energy consumption, and switching to renewable energy resources is critical to our clients.”
