The Saint Peter’s family came together to celebrate the naming right dedication of The Nayan K. Kothari, MD, Simulation Center for Interprofessional Learning, honoring Dr. Kothari’s decades of service and commitment to providing compassionate patient care and training medical residents from all over the world. Dr. Kothari, the center’s founder and chief academic officer, celebrates a 57-year career at Saint Peter’s, having served as chair of the Department of Medicine and program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. He has taught hundreds of residents throughout his career, with those residents becoming physicians who impart Dr. Kothari’s philosophy of fostering a patient-centered culture through the art of bedside manner. Dr. Kothari’s work has helped shape future generations of physicians and patient care. The Nayan K. Kothari, MD, Simulation Center for Interprofessional Learning will continue this legacy in his name. We thank Dr. Kothari for his leadership and decades-long commitment to medical education. We are proud to honor his contributions with this dedication and wish him continued success in his career at Saint Peter’s.

Please join us in celebrating Community Health Services Clinical Coordinator Megan Chan, BSN, RN-BC, on her recent receipt of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses! Megan is praised for "introducing innovations and swiftly adapting to change." Her passion for nursing and commitment to the profession has led Megan to split her role between community health services and nursing education, building strong relationships and offering her expertise and support both internally and throughout the community. During the COVID-19 surges, Megan pivoted to serve as a staff nurse on our COVID-19 unit, assisted in Middlesex County's COVID testing and helped Saint Peter's immunize over 45,000 individuals. She leads community vaccination efforts at churches, community centers and food banks while also serving as nurse educator. We thank Megan for her commitment to nursing excellence at Saint Peter's and the dedication she demonstrates to her fellow nurses and members of our community! Sharmin and Mainul eagerly awaited the arrival of their third child, Hamza. Amidst the joy of Hamza's arrival, concern began to grow as the newborn's oxygen levels were dropping. X-rays showed that Hamza had a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH), meaning his intestines were in his ribcage. Three days after Hamza was born, L. Grier Arthur III, MD, FACS, FAAP, chair of the Department of Surgery at Saint Peter’s University Hospital and surgeon-in-chief at The Children’s Hospital at Saint Peter’s University Hospital, performed the two-hour surgery to repair his diaphragm.
