In support of our commitment to health equity in our community, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System recently distributed $500,000 in grants to local organizations addressing social determinants of health such as food insecurity, housing, education and access to care. Saint Peter’s presented a grant to the City of New Brunswick in support of a new initiative in the City’s Department of Human and Community Services called the “Homeless Prevention Outreach and Integrated Service Response Program.” The program will engage in outreach to homeless individuals, and begin to develop a database of vital information to help create long-term strategies to address social, economic, and medical needs of this vulnerable population. The grant money will be used to supplement the costs of three existing part-time employees and provide the opportunity to hire a full-time program manager who will be charged with developing and supervising the new program. Pictured below (from left to right) are Keith Jones II, director of New Brunswick’s Human and Community Services; Leslie D. Hirsch, president and CEO of Saint Peter’s Healthcare System; Brittany Spanos, executive director of Community Outreach and diversity officer at Saint Peter’s; Rebecca Escobar, New Brunswick City Council president; Jim Choma, vice president for Catholic Mission and chief development officer at Saint Peter’s; Jim Cahill, mayor for the City of New Brunswick; and Michael Drulis, city administrator for the City of New Brunswick
