People don't leave because the work is hard. They leave because they don't feel seen, heard, understood, recognized, or celebrated." At SLIF, SARA MCVEY, CEO of Sequoia Living, shared why culture isn't built through big initiatives. It's built in the everyday moments that make people feel they belong. As we celebrate 250 years of America, we're grateful for the generations whose stories continue to inspire us. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and safe Fourth of July.

The Tamalpais Marin Awards: Best Assisted Living, Best Continuing Care Retirement Community. Sequoia Living is proud to announce that three of our Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs), also known as Life Plan Communities, have been recognized by U.S. News & World Report for 2026. According to reporting by McKnight’s Senior Living, this year’s recognition is based on extensive feedback from residents and families, gathered from hundreds of thousands of surveys nationwide. The results reflect what matters to them most in daily life, including team responsiveness, dining quality, opportunities for social connection, and the overall experience of community living. Only those communities receiving the highest feedback across these areas were named “Best,” with distinctions awarded based on performance rather than rank. The recognitions reflect the experiences of residents and families, highlighting excellence in care, connection, and everyday living. The Tamalpais Marin is known for its welcoming culture and strong sense of connection. Residents experience a lifestyle that blends independence with thoughtful support, where friendships, engaging life enrichment programs, and time spent outdoors all play a role in daily life. Their recognition as “Best Assisted Living” and “Best Continuing Care Retirement Community” reflects an environment where belonging comes naturally, support is felt, and neighbors become friends, creating a shared sense of meaning.

At 92, Helen Bigelow is still creating, still sharing, still growing. Her first children’s book, Pat’s Cat, is now finding its way into the hands of young readers across the Bay Area, thanks to a meaningful partnership between Sequoia Living and Empowering Children Bay Area. With support from Senior Services for Northern California (SSNC), the philanthropic organization of Sequoia Living purchased 30 copies of Pat’s Cat, which have been gifted to students at Roosevelt Elementary School, where each child will receive their own book. It will also be featured as a read-aloud across all 16 Empowering Children Bay Area (ECBA) school sites. It’s a simple but powerful connection, a resident’s story reaching a new generation, sparking imagination, and reinforcing the importance of community and friendship. Moments like this reflect what it means to Never Stop Growing, at every age, and in every direction. For more on ECBA visit: https://lnkd.in/d9Q4A7Se
