Excited to announce that David Rudnitsky is joining Thrive Global as an advisor at this pivotal moment of hyper-growth. David, who is the EVP of North American Enterprise Sales at Yext, wrote "The Sales Playbook" in Marc Benioff's book "Behind the Cloud" and Business Insider published a great piece featuring David last week about closing software sales during the pandemic. We're delighted to have David join us, and with him 35 years of tech sales experience, and look forward to him meeting and working with the team.
Welcome to the Thrive Global Engineering Blog! So many of us on the engineering team joined Thrive because of its great mission and potential to help improve the lives of so many around the world. We're a behavior change tech and SaaS company and through our platform we've brought together science, AI and storytelling to crack the challenge of changing human behavior to help people be healthier, more resilient and more productive. This is our very first post and we're excited to be launching. This blog is written by and for engineers. We wanted to create a space where we can share our experiences and insights on the latest technologies we are using, the systems we are building and the patterns that we are applying. Thanks for reading! Timur Lesov, Head of Engineering and Hugh O’Brien, Head of Infrastructure & Engineering Operations
When Coronavirus hit in March, families and school systems around the country scrambled to adapt. We all hoped that the summer break would give us enough time to do everything that needed to be done to go back to school safely and successfully in the fall. And yet...here we are! If you're a parent, student, teacher, or administrator and feeling overwhelmed by the unprecedented circumstances, you are FAR from alone. This is too big a burden for any one person to bear on their own. The good news is we don't have to. We know there are all kinds of good ideas and smart solutions out there right now. That's why we're launching a campaign to uncover and share the country's strongest #BackToSchoolSolutions, along with a platform that will serve as a nationwide hub to source and spread the best solutions, and the most innovative ideas and inspiring stories from people and communities all across the country.
As we say at Thrive, it's important for us all to drink our own champagne! Here's our Chief Training Officer Joey Hubbard leading a Thriving Mind training for all Thrivers. Thriving Mind, one of our digital learning experiences that we are bringing to our customers, brings the latest neuroscience around mental health together with Thrive's Microsteps to help employees manage their stress triggers. Here's one Microstep to try: During a negative, stressful moment, close your eyes and think of a person, place, or activity that brings you calm.
"Throughout your career, if you ever feel like you're being the hero in a situation, you've probably already made five mistakes. No one will thank the hero — yesterday's issues don't linger on in a busy manager's mind. Instead, your team will see your efforts as a normal part of your job and expect it often. Even if you like being the hero and can handle the sacrifices that come with it, maybe your colleague who has a family can't do the same — but now that's the bar you've set. If you're always being the hero, you're doing a disservice to yourself and your colleagues. You're masking a problem that you won't always be there to solve. If you find that you can't shake the urge, then you need to rethink your communication with your team because we shouldn't design systems that rely on heroism. The need to go above and beyond will happen from time to time, but it shouldn't be the norm." — Hugh O'Brien, Head of Infrastructure and Engineer Operations
Giving is core to our DNA at Thrive. Going beyond ourselves and stepping out of our comfort zones to serve others is one of the most effective and proven ways to boost our well-being, transforming the giver as much as the recipient. And in this time of compounding crises, finding ways to give has never been more important. We are thrilled to announce the launch of two new programs for Thrivers centered on volunteering and charitable/community giving! Virtual Volunteering through Goodera
