In an effort to further DE&I at Veritiv, we conducted training sessions including: • Unconscious Bias training for Senior Leadership • DEI Micro-learning for people leaders covering a wide range of topics, including Allyship, Emotional Intelligence, Leading with Empathy, Leadership Agility, and The Difference Between Equality & Equity • Inclusive Leadership for all employees to better understand the six signature traits of an inclusive leader: Commitment, Courage, Cognizance of Bias, Curiosity, Cultural Intelligence and Collaboration. In addition to training, we are also adding Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to network internally, provide the inclusion of ideas and solutions, and create a space for mentoring and career development. We are committed to creating a workforce that reflects the diversity of our stakeholders in communities globally where we live and work.

Earlier this month, Veritiv celebrated the next generation of women leaders by sponsoring a booth at the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta #STEM Expo. Our volunteers demonstrated various STEM careers within the company. We shared a video showing the story of the “life” of a box and asked the girls to test the design and engineering of the box by trying to CRUSH it with weights. For our #VeritivExperts series, we caught up with Sheridan Skopczynski, Testing Engineer out of Livonia, Michigan. She helps customers either validate their existing packaging or find solutions to damage they are seeing from the shipping environment. There is also a significant push towards sustainability, which means a lot of packaging is being shifted towards new, more sustainable materials. This creates a need for testing and packaging validation. After testing is complete, she assesses whether the packaging is sufficient for its application, or if it needs adjustments to better protect the product. If adjustments need to be made, we assess the weak points of the pack and make recommendations to the customer. By having a testing lab along with a design center, we can make adjustments on the fly and re-cut samples and re-test all under one roof, reducing lead time and creating a solution as quickly as possible. #Packaging #Design #Testing
