They had great benefits until the Obamacare directives took over. Like most companies, the cost increased significantly and they were forced to pass that on to to all of us as employees. The coverage is still slightly above average compared to competitors though.

You have to wait so long and then the coverage is not very good.

Absolutely horrible benefits. The workers bear the brunt of the costs. It's hard to imagine the company pays ANYTHING for medical/dental yet they hock their stock for you to purchase. The monthly premiums are ridiculous and the deductibles are outrageous. If you choose to work here, I sincerely hope you have a spouse who can cover you. If not, just be prepared to pay obnoxious out of pocket costs. I know some employees who said it's cheaper to pay the penalty for having no insurance vs. participating in AMR's plan.

Offered decent benefits to employees. Part-time employees were eligible for 401K with match. Only problem was that they forced all employees to start 401K and it automatically came out of their checks after 6 months. To cancel, you had to call into HR, which is a hassle.

The insurance is expensive even for one person, let alone a family. The amount of the insurance makes it almost a must to have to pick up extra shifts to balance it off. When you combine that with the compensation you receive, it makes it almost impossible not to have two job or pick up shifts to balance out financially.

The best thing I find is that we have multiple options to fit individual employees needs. The worst thing is our share of cost and coverages are quite high. You would think being in the medical field there would be a better benefit package but I would rate it as just ok

Health insurance gives you plenty of options but comes with a pretty hefty price tag. I pay around 1/2 my income for benefits for my family. You do get the choice of 3 or 4 different carriers at 4 different levels but the premium costs for the $2000 deductible vs the $10000 deductible plans isn't significant enough, especially if you have small children and know you are going to be using said benefits. The 401k program is nice and AMR does contribute as well but contributions are not optional which some aren't a fan of. I do like the FSA and DCA programs that are available and have saved a decent amount of money utilizing them. Also, I have personally used their short term disability program and that was not as big a hassle as I expected and it paid 60% of my salary during maternity leave (you have to opt into this and it costs a few dollars per pay check). I accrue paid time off at a decent rate, around 5hrs a week.
