It's economical for a Individual to have health insurance so long as you don't mind very high deductibles and you don't ever get married. Adding a spouse is extremely much more expensive and they charge you monthly surcharges as well as do not reduce the deductible but instead double it.

The high deductible and then still paying 20-30% of the costs after hitting the deductible. Now they are surcharging for tobacco users, (doesn't affect me) and spouses who work and don't use their companies benefits.
