Various plans to choose from, becoming really expensive

There are perhaps 3-4 viable choices, mostly through UHC. Costs are reasonable for individuals, but quite expensive for families. Deductibles and annual out of pocket maximums are sub-par compared to other similar size companies. IBM makes reasonable employer HSA contributions as bait for the HDHP plans, but you can't count on that to continue. IBM dropped the excellent VSP vision plan a few years ago; the cheap "Blue View" plan that replaced it is horrible; eye care professionals hate it. Overall it is really expensive.

I have had good experiences with the health care provider in terms of coverage and prompt payment.

Got worse and worse as years went by but is still better than average of what you get elsewhere

It is complicated but mostly adequate

PPO plans are expensive, have high deductibles and poor coverage.

Degraded coverage options over the years. Not necessarily IBM's fault though.
