MIT employees receive up to 15 vacation days for the first year of eligible service; 20 days if you have more than one year of eligible service. Depends on supervision: my advisor never paid attention, so I took vacation whenever I wanted (unless I had a deadline or a presentation). That said, I worked 6 days a week for 6 years.

It's not really made explicit what the vacation policies are. When requested, a couple of weeks a year is perfectly fine.
