2 forced shutdown during year . so you burn your PTO then. Also PTO depends on tenure. not very great if you just join.

I think it is very nice that they offer 40 hours of paid time off to volunteer. You also will get more vacation time the longer you are there.

PTO accrues quite nicely the longer you are at the company. We observe MLK day, Veteran's Day and have a very innovative Volunteer Time Off program.
The downside is that we are forced to take vacation during 4th of July and Christmas.

Best thing is the employee can take time off anytime
Worst thing is there is only 2 weeks, and there is mandatory vacation that the employee have to use their time off to fill in the days of mandatory shut down week as July 4th and Christmas shut down week.

Compulsory time off might not be useful for some while segregated buckets of vacations help

Just par for a company such as this, nothing special. There is no credit for "time in the industry" that other companies offer.

Paid time off is limited to 12 days initially and sick time is a separate accrual - why not combine them (few are sick 10+ days per year). Forcing new hires to take most of their vacation during Christmas and summer shutdowns or not get paid is not a good choice - the already limited vacation is diminished in value.

I wish vacation and sick time were not split. As someone who is rarely sick, I am maxed out on sick time but have much less vacation time. To me, time is time and you shouldn't be punished for being sick less.

It used to be FANTASTIC, but for new people, due to the mandatory two weeks of shutdown every year, it's pretty rotten for new folks.
