The best thing was being trained by employers who was good at explaining.

On the job training and a video LMS program. The LMS could be tedious, but it is effective if you have no experience.

Lots of online training and it’s all good for BSIS purposes. All free and high quality.

The orientation day is a bit of a joke, you watch a bunch of videos and take a test (it's open book.) The videos aren't anything you haven't seen a million times. The actual training is what happens on site and it varies from site to site. If, say the supervisor is completely overworked and pulling 70 hour weeks and more things continuously pile onto their work load, you're probably not going to get the greatest training in the world and I speak from experience on both ends of the spectrum there. Training new guards is an absolute chore because there is SO MUCH that you have to have done too by the end of your shift that the new guard doesn't need to learn. Then you could end up with someone who isn't overwhelmed that loves their site and you can become the best new hire that site has had in a long time. It's sad that sometimes new hires don't get the attention they deserve simply because the trainer has entirely too much on their plate (no matter how many times they have reported the issue to their District Office.) Tiny sites get neglected and overworked and that was what I was forced to deal with. I really did love the job but at the end of my reign, I just couldn't do it anymore. My health physically and mentally went down the drain so fast because I just couldn't keep up. There was a new hire every month because of the turn over rate, I was supposed to not have over 40 hours but worked more 60+ hours, including a 20 hour shift because no one would come in to work to relieve me. If there's staff and things are running as they should, your training will be great (unless the trainer is terrible but I hadn't come across that in the 3 years I worked for them).

I sat in a room and watched videos on company policy. Also, no self-defense despite us being security guards or instructions on what to do if met with someone who gets violent. Not helpful, especially when the riots started. Also, you only get $9 total for the training session despite it being several hours.
