If you serve 20 or more years the retirement plan is one of the best in the country. Not you receive a pension you also keep your medical coverage.

TSP is basically an unmatched 401K, pension earned after 20 years of service. Active duty retirement begins being paid immediately upon retirement, no waiting until 65.
