Retirement is a tool for retention, but not comparable to the current economy and other non-monetary sacrifices for some

TSP and pension plans are pretty good. I wouldn't know about the pension plan but guys that retire are taken care of for the most part. TSP is a very good investment plan and I would recommend starting it right away. Even if you only do 4 years inside of the Army that money will be working for you for the rest of your life. You also have the option to take it out and roll it over into a private IRA or Roth IRA
