I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Amplitude
Interview
A recruiter reached out to me on LinkedIn and I set up an initial phone screen with her. She was friendly and helpful, and quickly set me up with the next person, the direct manager. What I find interesting is that EAs don’t report into the executive they support, they report to the Director or Operations. I didn’t fully realize that until I was interviewing with said person. He was friendly and I guess that provides an extra layer for executives but I’m not a fan of that structure. He also repeatedly said that EAs are fully embedded in their silos (orgs). Interesting word choice; silos suggest that orgs don’t talk/ communicate with each other. May not be the case but from where I come from, silo in the workplace has always been a negative term.
I didn’t move forward after that. The recruiter did email me to let me know which I appreciated. After investing any time, it’s nice not to be ghosted which unfortunately happens a lot. So that stood out to me.

I applied online. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at Amplitude (San Francisco, CA) in Oct 2017
Interview
I applied online from their careers page. Recruiter reached out couple days later and scheduled a call by email with a confirmed time vs. checking with you first for availability - no calendar invite either. Recruiter missed the call so I reached out the same day to check in, they apologized and rescheduled to next day. Phone screen lasted about 15 minutes, which was super slow, awkward and quiet. The recruiters here need to do a better job with understanding the roles they are screening for so they don't stumble upon words when the candidate asks questions. Be prepared to ask engaging questions and don't just respond with "yeah, great."
Unexperienced, unprofessional. Would not recommend. A true startup.
This is Matt Althauser, CRO at Amplitude. The role you were applying for was to support myself and the GTM Teams. I took a look at your review and wanted to reach out and personally apologize for your experience. We work hard to give each and every candidate a great hiring process and we dropped the ball here.
In terms of next steps, I've spoken with the team that was in charge of screening and we are putting in more standardized questions to the process for future EAs. As this is the first time I was hiring an EA, I could have given more guidance to the team which is another area for improvement.
Hopefully you've found something that fits your skill-set and are on to do amazing things. Best of luck!
