      Interview

I applied to the position and was contacted by a recruiter, who instructed me to complete a detailed Producer test. After the test was complete, I waited more than two weeks without any response from the recruiter or hiring manager, and was finally told "thanks but no thanks" without any feedback on the work I did on the Producer test.

Given a hypothetical working scenario, explain how you as a Producer would improve productivity and communication of small strike team meetings.

      Interview

I had some internal connections which helped get my resume in front of the right people. Was emailed on a Wednesday, got a phone interview set up for Thursday, and was told they wanted to do an in-person on Friday. They certainly move fast. The phone interview was particularly intense. Lasted about an hour. There weren't any trick questions and no softball ones either. They wanted to know what it would be like to work with you, so they asked a series of scenario-based questions and you had to just dive right in. The in-person interview was set up quickly, and they put you up in a hotel that's a 5 minute walk from the studio. My interview started at 8:45am and went straight through to 5:30pm. There was a 55 minute break for lunch which was also a part of the interview, so there's no breaks here. Each interview was generally one-on-one, though sometimes had two in there, and the interviews with the department you're after lasted about an hour compared to non-department (in my case, art and design) lasted about 30-45 minutes. It was the most intense interview experience I have had. The first three sessions (all with production) were again along the "what's it like to work with you" variety, discussing a lot of production scenarios. Prepare to show your work on the whiteboard, and there's no softballs thrown here. Very, very intense. After lunch was with the art and design departments. These were more typical interviews, some background "getting to know you" questions as well as scenario questions. I've heard word that if they don't think you're a good candidate, they will cut the day short, so hopefully you don't see HR coming around. Speaking of HR, they were very gracious all around. They made you feel comfortable and made sure you knew what was going on. After the interview I got a small gift bag of Bungie swag. You won't see the production floor but you'll get a tour of their theater and arcade. They'll also cover your per diem for food, generously. I didn't get the position, but overall I was very impressed (and slightly intimidated) by the interview.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Was asked about about a recent book or article that has affected or changed the way I approach the job. They're looking for non-fiction, and be prepared to defend your position very rigorously against a devil's advocate attack.
