This was a position that the company reached out to me for in March 2023, a Director position that hadn't yet been created but would soon and would I be interested? I met with a current director to discuss the role, went very well, and then was asked to wait for over 2 months while the executive leader returned from a sabbatical. (Was told there was no need for a full interview loop, just needed the executive signoff). Recruitment was communicative throughout the waiting period, and was told there were no other candidates they were considering, that this role was something they were creating for me. Felt great about the prospect at this point and didn't mind waiting.
Once the executive leader returned however, things went sideways. First, the role was downgraded from Director to Senior Manager with no update provided to me (I found out during the executive scheduling), and it was clear at the very beginning of the interview that the executive leader had no info on me, did not know that the company reached out to me, or that I had waited 2 months to meet him. He then proceeded to ask vague questions around marketing and product integration, and it was clear he seemed to be looking for something specific not in my background.
At some point during the interview I asked him if he had these needs documented yet, and he said they are all listed in the job description. I responded by asking what job description, and the executive leader seemed disturbed that I would apply for a role without reading the job description. I clarified I didn't apply, the company reached out to me and hadn't sent a job description because the role didn't exist at the time.
We then paused the interview unsure how to proceed, and I read the job description he linked to me via chat. The interview resumed, but there was far too much dissatisfaction on my part (and his as well) to be a successful match. Overall I feel like my time was wasted for over 2 months and there is clearly a disconnect in the company between recruiting, senior management, and executive management.
