I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at CCS Fundraising
Interview
The interview process was rather long - a bit over a month in total - but I appreciated that CCS was fairly clear & communicative about the process. My opinion soured, however, when after 2 engaging interviews and completing a writing sample, I received a generic two-line email informing me that my qualifications did not match the job. I should think my resume and the screening interview would have been enough to indicate if I was not qualified? The writing sample, in particular, was a fairly sizable time commitment. I was invited for a second interview after submitting it, so I assume it was well received. My feedback for future hiring would be 1) do not assign the writing sample so early in the process - given the time commitment, it feels like something that should be used as a decision factor between final applicants. It is a lot to ask of early-stage applicants. 2) If applicants progress pass the screening stage, please do them the courtesy of a personalized message. Keeping it brief is fine! But a robotic message about not being qualified was a bit insulting after clearly being qualified enough to be considered for multiple interviews and a writing sample. My experience in the actual interviews was generally positive. I likely would have accepted an offer from CCS. While it is always disappointing to not get a job offer, I understand that things don't always line up. No big deal. A note from the interview team or HR acknowledging my time would have been nice. Feedback is also always appreciated -- but understandable that it might not be feasible to offer that to all candidates. Getting such a cold message after about a month in the process turned me off from looking at CCS again in the future. It didn't really feel like my time -- especially the hours I had to put into the writing sample -- was valued.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
First interview was primarily questions about background and experience. Writing sample was a case study response. Second interview was primarily questions about a hypothetical job assignment. Interviewers were kind and the questions were reasonable.

Interview
Experienced three stages of their overall process: an brief informational chat (mostly them sharing details that could have been an email), a behavioral interview, and a take-home assignment. Got a boilerplate auto rejection message some weeks after submitting the assignment. Nothing personalized.

How have you worked within the constraints of nonprofits?
I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at CCS Fundraising in May 2026
Interview
A recruiter reached out to me via LinkedIn, and I decided to apply after I had a 1:1 with them where they explained to me more about the role and what would be required.
The interview process was a standard 3 rounds - an initial HR screening (1hr), a panel interview with two associate VPs (1hr), and a 1:1 with the lead executive (30 min.) that the executive mentioned was pretty much the last step in the interview process. In-between the initial screening and the panel interview, there was a case study which I had to prepare a short written insert and a presentation for a hypothetical situation. This case study was presented at the beginning of the panel interview.
The process was fairly smooth, but halfway through the interview following the HR screening, I was left in the dark for around 4 weeks (I assumed I got ghosted at first) and the role that I applied for changed titles and salary range. I was able to get clarification as to why this happened when I brought it up in my interviews, but there was not a direct acknowledgement from HR that this happened.
In the end, I was not extended an offer, which they communicated fairly promptly, but I wonder if they just hire on a rolling basis since the position was still up even at the end of the interview process. All-in-all, it was a standard hiring process and the case interview wasn't too bad, but the role change in the middle left some confusion.

Question 1
Standard Behavioral Questions: Tell me about a time when...
Case-Study Specific Questions: How would you approach this situation?; What assumptions did you have when making the deliverables for this case study?
A bit informal, phone screening and initial panel interview. It seemed concealed that the interview process was for their “warm candidate pool” rather than an available position. Employees seemed happy and projects were interesting.
