Eight Sleep interview questions

The first 75% of the interview process at 8sleep was typical; several quick phone calls, an in person interview, and then a pretty subjective case study/presentation exercise that you'll find anywhere you're applying to work with insecure MBA wannabes. HOWEVER, I'm writing this review because of the remaining 25% of my interview process, which I deem as outright unfair, dishonest, and predatory (some Better Business Bureau type sh*&^%) . Instead of giving me an offer, they asked me to do a 4-day trial period; this trial. According to my recruiter, [the trial] "is a formality," and the words of my to-be boss were "we just want to see if you fit in with the team and like working with you." I said "yes" to the trial, even though it would require me to spend 4 full days (at minimum wage) not taking several other interviews I had scheduled, because the job at 8sleep seemed in the bag. Moreover, I thought "what could i possibly accomplish (milestones, KPI's, etc) in four days of meeting people and onboarding?" It then came as a surprise to me that late on my third day of the trial, my to-be boss started to passively hyper-focus on my slight inexperience in Affiliate Marketing--something I was extremely honest about prior to agreeing to the 4-day trial (and 8Sleep verbally confirmed it was something they'd be patient with me on). Suddenly, on my last day of the trial, Affiliate Marketing experience was the most important component of this role. On Friday afternoon, my to-be colleagues we're all saying "see you monday man" and "looking forward to working with you," so I felt like I achieved the original goal of the trial (does the 8sleep team like me). My to-be boss said he'd get me their decision by 8pm Friday night, as he knew that I had an 8pm deadline to accept another offer I was given (that job was in LA, and i just moved to NYC from CA). When do you think he called me? My to-be manager called me at 11am on Saturday(!!SATURDAY YO!!). So, not only was 8sleep dishonest with me about the role I was applying for, AND about how they'd use the trial, they also screwed my best remaining job prospect over. Ultimately, do I think my lack of experience in Affiliate Marketing was the real reason they didn't give me the job? No. I think that it could be one of two things: 1) despite several colleagues going out of their way to tell me they look forward to working with me, they didn't like me. 2) my to-be boss, an Israeli gentleman, didn't like that I'm of Iranian descent.

The process was quick. I applied and received an interview request the next day. I had a phone interview with the recruiter, who was really friendly. One thing that threw me off was a big part of the job that wasn’t mentioned in the job description on the job listing, so I wasn’t prepared to answer questions about it.
