I applied online in July. About 3 days later, I received an email letting me know that I was invited to have a brief phone interview. Following the link sent to you in the email, you can pick the time and day of your interview. They ask pretty standard questions in the phone interview;
1. What do you know about Flight Centre?
2. Why do you think you would make a great travel sales consultant?
3. Where have you travelled?
4. Do you have any sales experiences?
5. Have you had any experiences with targets and KPIs?
Then they go on to describe that your salary will be set with uncapped commission etc.
After that they tell you they'll be in contact with you soon regarding the progress of your application.
About a month after that, I received an email inviting me to go to the Assessment Day and to complete an Online Assessment prior to that day. They say that the online assessment won't take you more than an hour, but I can assure you, it will take you AT LEAST an hour... Most of it is behavioural type questions/statements that you have to agree or disagree with or rate yourself against, the last 3 sections were numerical, verbal and abstract skills. Nothing terribly difficult, if a little strange for the verbal section :/
From reading other reviews on Glassdoor about the Assessment Day, I was honestly expecting about 30 people. There were only 3 people (myself inclusive).
The structure of the day is still pretty much the same as what everyone else here has described.
You get to watch a lot of promo about how great Flight Centre is (I'd say that's probably 60% of your assessment day covered).
The actual assessment bit included a short presentation about yourself;
1. Introduce yourself, what did you study etc.
2. Why are you interested in applying to Flight Centre?
3. What are your future leadership/managerial aspirations?
I had a fairly easy time here because my audience consisted of my two interviewers and the two other girls applying.
Then you get given two booklets to complete in 55 minutes.
First booklet gives you a scenario about the details of a family holiday. You have to calculate the price of things and the commission you'd get etc. (calculator and numbers and things provided).
Second booklet is a geography test basically. Know the capital cities of popular places, popular countries, names and location of popular destinations etc.
Before this 55 minutes, they give you a really brief overview of the "7 Steps of Sales," then they'll call you out one at a time while you're doing the booklets to pitch a holiday in 4 minutes.
Don't freak out, you don't actually need to know relevant prices or airlines or destination names, they just want to see how well you can engage the customer and implement the 7 Steps of Sales. Ask the right questions, smile, be interested, sound enthusiastic and don't forget to close the sale.
Eventually, after a short break and more videos, they'll give you another booklet to fill in. It's basically a "what would you do in this situation" kind of booklet I guess. A few more basic arithmetic but nothing hard. Know your percentages I guess...
Lastly, they'll pull you out (again) for individual interviews. These are just 3 "describe a situation where.... and you had to.... What was the outcome of....." kind of questions. Be as specific as possible when answering these. okaaayyy good luck everyone :3
