First I underwent a 20-minute HR interview, then a 30-minute interview with two senior people in the department considering hiring me. In this second interview, we reviewed statistical programming code I had sent them with my application (required); additionally, I answered general methodological and content-related questions. (The application process also required uploading a first-authored publication but we didn't discuss it.) The next day I received word that I had been selected to give a job talk and undergo two in-person interviews the following week. The group at my job talk was terrific -- they paid close attention and asked good, very fair questions. After the job talk I completed the two in-person interviews, which mostly focused on my leadership abilities and experience, including many questions on how I had handled a variety of difficult situations I had encountered as a project or team lead. I was impressed with how smart and fair-minded everyone at the talk and interviews seemed to be. Finally, I was thrilled by how fast the process moved; two days after my in-person events, I received an offer.
