I applied online and got an email in the following day asking me what would be the minimum salary expectations that I would be willing to accept to embrace a project in Portugal (during the application they ask you about salary expectations).
To which I replied that if the company likes me, and I like the project that is being proposed, salary expectations are negotiable and I didn't want to advance with a "minimum acceptable salary" as it seemed a bit inappropriate when you ask for a profile with high technical skills (e.g. they asked for a PhD in this particular job offer).
After this I never heard from them for two months, yet my application was "under review" on the website. I send them an email asking whether I was still being considered, and got a response two days later saying that my application was still "under review" because the vacancy was still open, but I had been ruled out due to high salary expectations.
