      Editorial Assistant Interview

      Sep 18, 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Burr Ridge, IL
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at McGraw Hill (Burr Ridge, IL)

      Interview

I was referred by someone who already worked there - she forwarded my resume. I received a call from HR to set up a phone interview. From there, I had a phone interview/screening with the HR manager, who then set up a phone interview with the hiring manager. After I passed that, I was asked to come in for an in person interview. I was there for four hours and interviewed separately with about five different people on the team. About two days later, they offered me the job and I took it. That was 17 years ago!

      Question 1

Honestly, it was so long ago, I don't remember, but I know they asked me why I wanted to work for McGraw-Hill.

      Application

      I interviewed at McGraw Hill

      Interview

Had an informal chat with someone from the recruitment team who turned up several minutes late without acknowledging as much and didn't turn on their camera despite it being a video call interview (again without acknowledgement). They seemed unprepared for the interview and couldn't answer basic questions, giving vague answers at best and misinformation at worst, which was later corrected in the first stage interview. This interview with a team member was friendly and professional, but I was unfortunately ghosted after this with no follow up and no response to check-in emails, despite the recruitment team replying immediately, calling, and even leaving voice messages at the start of the process. After over a month, I received an automated rejection email as though the application hadn't even made it to the interview stage, which was strange. Very rude and disappointing to not even give a personal rejection after two calls.

      Nov 12, 2013
      Anonymous employee
      New York, NY
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at McGraw Hill (New York, NY) in Mar 2012

      Interview

The interview process was long, starting with a phone interview and progressing to two on-site interviews. I ended up meeting with a total of 8 people at the company. They ran a background check and hired a third-party company to check my references (my references said they were surprised by how intense the questioning was.)

      Question 1

None of the questions really stood out or were unexpected. They weren't trying to trip me up.
