Recruiter reached out over LinkedIn and we set up a 30 min initial phone interview. It was a great conversation and we both felt it was worthwhile moving ahead. She put me in contact with the Regional Manager so we could set up a second interview which would be over Zoom. Again, great conversation. Felt very aligned with the company and the role and our personalities meshed really well. He also used a lot of positive word choices around my receiving the position, which made me feel things were going well. At the end of the interview the RM said he would like me to complete the next phase of the recruitment process, which is learning more about one of their ed-tech platforms and recording a pitch as if I were presenting to a professor, to be completed by end of day the coming Monday. The log-in information was sent over on a Friday afternoon, and I started the assignment Friday evening. Unfortunately, the log in information I was send did not work. I immediately contacted the RM, but did not hear anything back until Monday morning. I spent the weekend trying to learn what I could without actually being able to log in, as I didn't want to waste what little time I had. I spent the full day on Monday on the platform, as there were also projects to set up and complete as part of the pitch. It was a full day of learning, putting together a pitch, and then recording it. RM had told me its roughly a 2 hour time commitment..... Anyways - sent it off and felt really good about things. I followed up with the RM a few days later, but he didn't respond. The following Monday I got an email from the recruiter saying they decided to go with another applicant (fair enough), but she felt I was a good fit and encouraged me to apply to another competition. If there was anything else she could help with, that I should get in touch. Always looking to improve, I responded to the email hoping to get some feedback, as well as acknowledging that this now completed competition was the only one currently open in Canada. I never heard back from her either. I would be open to applying with McGraw Hill again, but it does leave a bit of a bad taste if a company representative encourages you to stay in touch and how much value they see in you....but just leave you hanging?
